Summary
An awfully vague mission description causes Nero and Dante to be gravely underprepared for a fight. Instead of facing off against some weak lesser demons, they are greeted by a strange type of Angelo that even Dante wasn't sure existed. When the demon outsmarts them, Nero is prepared to protect Dante at any cost. Even if the cost is his own life. He's not exactly thrilled when Vergil is the one to show up at the last second to turn the tide and allow them to escape.

Or: Nero takes the bullet for Dante and Vergil saves the day and finally tries to be a good father - with mild success.

Summary
Nico gets a call in the middle of the night from a friend that works at the local newspaper. The man has seen that tomorrow's edition has been changed at the last second.
Now, on the newspaper's front page is an article that states that Kyrie has been arrested and that Nero has been killed during the police raid. A raid ... that hasn't happened yet.
The gunsmith tries to get everyone into the van and leave, but the police forces arrive and she can only escape with the kids...

"You a demon?"
The man tilts his head up, and Nero realizes he'd been staring at his arm this entire time, only bothering to assess the rest of him up close. There's a sickeningly long pause, the world tilting on its axis.
Then the man's eyes roll back and he drops to the floor with a quiet thud.
(An AU in which Vergil never manages to take Nero's arm, instead splitting into V and Urizen right there in the garage. Nero suddenly finds himself taking care of a wounded demon and a very sickly man, while trying to piece together the mystery of who these two really are.)

Summary
Simply put, Dante has lived for years without him, has built a world and a life while Vergil spent the better part of his own adult years rotting away as a mindless slave, and nothing made this highly disconcerting fact more clear than their coming back to the human world.
Vergil’s own time had stopped the moment he’d lost sight of who he was, but the universe hadn’t stopped for him. So now he lives out his days in the shop that Dante’s founded with someone else, watching him take on the practice that he shares with someone else, and sits around, alone in his own mind, wondering where his days have gone.

Nero wouldn't doubt he was actually run over by Nico this time. His head hurts to the point it pains him to think. His chest feels like it's been slashed open, his arms feel like they've been broken, torn off and wringed like wet rags, reattached and the same goes for his legs. He can swear he feels his organs creaking and pure agony makes itself known inch by heart-burning inch. His skin may as well have been peeled off from the tip of his nails to his eyelids, in the sense that it burns and it feels like he's freezing
