Then, all of a sudden, everything felt wrong. It was as if he was floating away from his body, his mind a balloon escaping a child's loose clutch. He couldn't smell the alpha, just his own scent turning sour and rotten. The cool sensation of the man's rings where they pressed into bare skin suddenly spread all over, no longer comforting, but as if ice water had engulfed him. Something nagged at him, though, in the back of his mind. Something like a spark, settling into the omega and igniting coals to keep him warm and happy.
And Steve opened his eyes.

Summary
Growing up, the soulmark on Eddie's wrist was a comfort. It's proof that one day there will be someone who sees him as more than the town pariah. He lets himself believe that, for once, things will end well... right up until he learns who's at the other end of the bond. If there's a happy ending in Eddie's future, it can't possibly be with Steve Harrington, so Eddie runs, telling himself he's saving them both the heartache. A few months later the connection between them abruptly goes silent and Eddie thinks that's probably the end of things. Maybe it would have been if not for March of 1986.

When Eddie Munson first learned he won a dumb online contest to meet the cast of his favorite fantasy show, he didn't expect it to bring out so many feelings.
He was happy, of course, because this was a dream come true. He was excited to actually meet them, take pictures, and see the new episode of the show. And he was definitely worried about one person in particular. Steve Harrington, who happened to be the main character of the show and someone Eddie couldn't stand.
Amid all those feelings, Eddie also didn't expect to be missing one of his online friends so much. The hurt from getting ghosted still lingered, but Eddie would be lying if he said he didn't still have hope that Knight would come back.
He just didn't know what he was hoping for.

Written for the Steddie Summer Exchange and based on Penny00dreadful's prompt.
Three years ago King Richard Harrington left for the war, leaving his only son, Steve, as the Regent Prince of the kingdom.
Since that day, Steve has done his best to keep his people safe and happy, and when his subjects formally ask him to take the King's title, he can't refuse, so he organizes a funeral for his father and gets ready to be crowned King.
There's only a problem.
King Richard is back. And he's not happy about it.---
The Sacred House’s wooden door closes with a loud grinding sound and for a moment no one moves.
The cleric stares at Steve from the altar, while the nobility shares a worried look: isn't the cleric going to proclaim the new king? After all, King Richard's body was never found, and being crowned after a King that nobody knows if he is really dead or not is certainly a bad omen. Steve himself tried very hard to postpone the coronation, but three years had passed since the last letter was received from the King and even the Prince Regent had no more excuses to leave the kingdom to live with uncertainty.Series

When Eddie gets a message on instagram from an account claiming to be the famous pop-star Steve Harrington, he knows immediately it's a catfish. He's not dumb. The account has no pictures and people like Steve Harrington don't just randomly DM guys like Eddie.
Still. What would be the harm in letting it play out? It's not dangerous if he knows he's being catfished. No, if he knows about it, then it's basically like a fun little roleplay. No harm, no foul.
