Being a Parselmouth came with the inherent predisposition to understand snake behaviours and imitate them. It was relieving Harry wasn’t going to kill anyone with venom, nor petrify them with his gaze. But also, somewhat frustrating as it was all completely useless. None of the skills that came with being a Parselmouth would help Harry survive Voldemort.
It might, in fact, have the opposite effect. For all Riddle's fury that Harry was the cause of his elder self’s defeat, he was fascinated by the fact Harry was also a Parselmouth. He had grabbed Harry’s face, turning him side to side looking bemusedly enraptured by Harry’s threat display. “At your age, I was imitating much more vicious snakes than this, Harry.”
That may have been all well and good, but Harry didn’t feel very vicious. He felt very threatened and in over his head.

Summary
Watching his parents' ex-friend attempt to resurrect a mass-murdering Dark Lord was not how Harry expected the Third Task to go.
He knows he has to think quickly and act quicker if he has any hope of surviving this year's confrontation, so Harry takes a risk. It's a potentially very dumb risk, but Peter is approaching him with a very sharp knife, and Harry knows he is running out of time.
Pro: He puts a stop to the Dark Lord's grand rebirth, and dies heroically as Peter kills him in a grief-fuelled rage.
Con: He doesn't put a stop to it, and dies slightly less heroically at the hand of an insane egomaniac. Said egomaniac goes on to rule the World. Or Britain.
The blade glints in the moonlight and Harry reckons if he's going to die either way; how much harm could a few words really do?

“What?” Shane gaped at him open-mouthed, pushing to his feet as he refastened his belt.
Ilya felt so dizzy with rage that he almost didn’t notice Rose tentatively skirting around him to reach the door.
He snapped into action, stepping toward Rose and leveling her with a dark, heated glare.
Or: Instead of leaving the club, Shane and Rose head to a private room. Ilya follows and stumbles on a scene that makes him mildly homicidal.

Summary
Shane goes out with his team ahead of the gold medal game, resigned to be the boring sober captain for the night, yet again. Peer pressured into taking a few shots, Notorious Lightweight Shane Hollander is sloshed and tries to make it home with his dignity in tact.
Instead, he runs into a pretty Russian boy who seems a little moren interested in him. That Russian boy happens to be Sasha, the son of the coach of the very man Shane has been trying to keep from his mind, but he doesn't know that. Shane goes back to his hotel room to take the edge off the harsh rejection he'd received from Ilya earlier that day.
What happens if (when) Ilya finds out?

Harry told himself Tom and Voldemort were worlds apart, nothing alike but their name. Still, every now and then, in moments so rare he could count them on one hand, he caught echoes of one inside the other.
When facing Voldemort, Harry sometimes glimpsed the lost child he had been. And when he looked at Tom now, he thought he saw a red shimmer deep within those pitch-black eyes.
It unnerved him.
