Throughout all their banter over the time they've been comrades, not once did Mydei cross the line. No matter how much Phainon tried to provoke, prod, or poke, the alpha's self-control was impressively unshakable. If Phainon didn't know any better, he would've thought that—
"Deliverer. Are you listening?"
A hand on his shoulder made him flinch—the unexpected contact snapping his spiraling thoughts like a bubble.
He meets the sharp gaze of amber, warm and intense, "Do you need to rest?"
What Mydei doesn't say outright is: Do you need me?
