  1. Summary

Marguerite Robespierre ran away from her abusive home at fourteen, leaving her brother and her sisters behind. Having to scavenge for food on the streets and nearly dying of starvation and later smallpox, she was lucky to have survived her homeless days and nights in Paris. After she was almost thrown into the Bastille for thieving food and resources, Maurice Duplay noticed her on the street and took her in. That was also when she met Camille Desmoulins, whom she became close to and shared her secret. She got a job as a journalist and changed her name to Francoise Isidore, eventually becoming interested in politics and investing herself in the Revolution. In 1789, she met a little girl named Odette on the street, whose parents were imprisoned for high debt. Francoise empathized with the girl; she adopted her as her own. A few months later, she met Louis Antoine de Saint-Just, who became a leader of the Revolution. Francoise fell in love with him and followed in his footsteps. She worked to the top of the National Assembly as Antoine became the President of the Committee of Public Safety. Francoise and Antoine became very close, and their son, Little Camille, was born weeks before their deaths in the Thermidorian Reaction.
