“Sober up, Veum. And let’s hope we don’t find anything in your office.”

Private investigator Varg Veum is fed up and does something he's never done before: he stops listening to his client and asks her - more aggressively than intended - to turn to someone else with her money and the material he's gathered so far. Left alone in his office, he turns to his bottle of Aquavit. Soon the husband to the client arrives though, and things take a violent turn south. Later, he's interviewed by Jacob Hamre at the police station.

“I said I wouldn’t go on with the case. She’d need to find someone else that’d try to get hold of the stalker. That made her upset. She obviously wasn’t comfortable with going to you guys about it…”

Shivering groans and a strained heavy breathing could be heard as soon as Hermione stepped inside the room. She hadn't known what to expect, even if she’d been informed about the man's condition, it was still hard to imagine him like this. Him, especially. The otherwise usually so stoic and put together patriarch, now a vulnerable and miserable sight where he’d been laying bed bound for the past couple of weeks.

AU - Canon Divergent | Tom "Redfly" Davis' life was slowly starting to unravel, though you'd never know from the outside. The future was uncertain: did he choose a marriage (that's been failing for longer than he cared to admit), or his career (the closest thing he views to a "higher calling" for himself)? All while years of denial, neglect, and a lot of untreated childhood trauma was finally taking its toll.
His subordinate, teammate, and best friend Will Miller calls him out on his bullshit, as he always does (because really, he's kind of always been the only one who could get away with it). He starts making him face the harsh truths he'd been trying so desperately to shove down into a dark, little pit inside of himself.
Then, the last crack that finally breaks the dam comes: Will is shot.
After that, nothing stays the same. If he thought everything was a mess before, he didn't know the meaning of the word. Yet despite the turbulence, maybe it's also the chance to find the right path forward.
