He goes to the fridge to look for the bell peppers, and while he’s in there, he says, “It was a good first kiss. As far as I could tell. I hadn’t really kissed anyone before.” He takes an orange bell pepper from the bag his mom brought over and brings it over to the counter. “Not anyone I really wanted to kiss anyway.” He cuts the top and bottom off the pepper and then works on cutting out the seeds. “Ilya’s a good kisser,” he adds. And he can’t believe he’s just said that out loud to his mom.

Shane blinked, his insides pooling inside him, like hot wax inside the end of a candle. He glanced around at Rose and Miles, who were chattering loudly, paying him no mind.
He hadn’t heard from him since he had left, or well, fled, his house that day. Shane had checked the thread between them more than once, just to see if maybe his phone was glitched, that he had sent him a message and it just didn’t make its way through.
Shane’s traitorous heart thumped faster as he tapped on the message, half-hoping it was a mirage, some kind of delusion from one too many blows to the head.
He was always met with the same two messages, the last ones before Shane had run, and everything had settled like a rock sinking into the calm surface of a lake.

It’s also the year that Dean Winchester gets drafted to the biggest and most important professional wrestling organization in American history — the World Wrestling Federation. Rising quickly up the card thanks to his in-ring talent, mic-ability, and charisma, there’s only one thing standing in Dean’s way of becoming number one on the roster: Castiel Krushnic. Technically proficient and universally respected, Krushnic seems to hate Dean from their very first meeting for reasons that Dean can’t fathom, but sets about picking apart through outlandish and attention-seeking behavior.
It works. Pretty soon, Krushnic’s paying way too much attention and their fierce rivalry ends up sparking a passionate, toxic affair that burns bright and hot, and oh-so dangerous. Egos and obsessions get in the way of true happiness though, and combined with Dean’s escalating drug abuse, it sees the two of them struggling to keep themselves together and whole. Dean Winchester was a Marine- and when he came home from overseas, he found out exactly what his family thought of him. Hearing enough, he left. Years later, he's settled- well, found an alley- in Wyoming. The next thing he knows, he's been hired at the local veterinarian's office, then at the Novak ranch. It'd be easier, of course, to keep his head down and do his job if the ranch owner, Castiel, wasn't so gorgeous.
Life's been a struggle to live day to day for Castiel since the day that he lost his wife and daughter in a tragic accident. He never expected to fall for the gorgeous man that he'd hired. Dean reads him in a way that his wife had never managed and it's terrifying.
As the local Veterinarian, Gabriel Novak was a damn busy man- He's lonely, and it's worse as he watches his brother definitely not stare or flirt with the new hand. Fed up with it, he signed up for a dating app only to put in the Stanford ZIP instead of his own.
Sam is shocked when he meets an amazing man- the only problem? He lives in Wyoming. It's completely worth the trip to see him, though- especially when he finds the brother who he thought was dead working for his new boyfriend!

Well, Dean most certainly doesn't handle Cas' death very well and so somehow he ends up grieving in his own special way: by building a home and praying that one day he will share it with someone very particular.
Deep down Dean knows it's a futile hope and probably not really healthy to cling onto it so desperately, but at the end of the day dreams occasionally come true, even for a Winchester.

He drinks his beer, content and probably about to doze off a little because it's warm and late, and he's turning into a grandpa, but then Cas speaks up. "If you don't have a fireplace, can Santa Claus even come to you and bring you gifts?"
Dean opens his eyes to see if Cas may have learned how to hoax someone while he wasn't looking, but his expression is open and serious, which means his question is sincere.
The thing is: Dean can't even make fun of him, not really. They live in a world where angels and demons and fairies exist. Who's to say there isn't an old guy with a workshop full of elves who loves to give presents to children once a year? That's more believable than God being a third-class writer who calls a sex hotline for Miss Magda.

Especially this kid, Castiel, Dean finds particularly interesting for some reason. It could be because he’s the first gay guy Dean’s ever known, or because he has a quirky fondness for bees. It pretty much had to be something like that because what the hell else would it be that keeps dragging Dean’s eyes to him?

Summary
While suffering from writer’s block, Castiel’s life changes when he discovers an abandoned record in a thrift store. Although already hooked by the vinyl’s cover, the mysterious singer worms his way into Castiel’s heart.
Frustrated after a disheartening recording session, Dean strolls into a bookstore, only to be stunned by the sci-fi novel he picks from a shelf. The impala headpiece on its cover could be a coincidence, but the author’s note cannot fool him. Whoever Emmanuel Allen is, he dedicated the book to him.
Years go by, one dedication following another, and the hidden subtext of their works speaks for itself. Unaware of the other’s identity, neither is able to stop the feelings from becoming more. Something profound.
But then Dean releases Unbeknownst Soul Mate, and their story becomes an internet phenomenon overnight.

Meanwhile, Dean is a broken shell. Rather than live under his brother and Eileen's pitying and concerned gaze, Dean decided it was time to move out of the bunker. With Jody’s help, Dean moves into a small lake house just outside of Sioux Falls, where he can mourn in peace and in his own time. Dean is determined to be better for Cas, even if it’s too little too late.
