Summary
Lucifer never thought he’d get married again.
The idea of unifying his soul with someone else felt like a fever dream given how his and Lilith’s marriage went. At best, their union had been nothing but a sham. A cloak or a mask they put on in public so that citizens of Hell saw them as a unified force.
But when it was at its worst? It may as well have been a war zone.
Hell, from what Lucifer could remember, there had only been two instances where he felt joy during their marriage. Charlie’s birth was one of them, and if anyone were to ask Lucifer, it was the most important occurrence. The other was when Lilith decided to end the charade and left them.
So, given that less-than-stellar track record, Lucifer just figured marriage was out of the cards for him—that achieving the same kind of happiness so many human souls got was part of his eternal punishment. A final ‘fuck you’ from his oh-so heavenly Father.
That was until he started to pay attention to Alastor.
