Hyeongjun let out a quiet sigh and just nodded, silently accepting the apology. Yet, the hand didn’t stop, petting his head and playing with his hair like something was left unsaid. He wouldn’t spend another night sleepless because of this, he needed his sleep and the lack thereof was clearly noticeable in his patience.

Summary
Shota's a simple man with simple needs: once a drab gray salesman in a drab gray office, he's since left behind the world of business and taught himself to slow down, go his own way, and put life first. His summer unfolds with the promise of the unplanned. Anything can happen... although he'll probably just chill around Seoul, teach some yoga classes, work out, play with his dog, and dodge his mother's attempts at marrying him off.
Jongseob is a hell of a lot more complicated, though he really wishes he wasn't. All he wants to do is to live, safe and happy, with his kids, but he still has the daunting process of facing his husband in court and finalizing his divorce standing in his way. Single parenthood is hard. Working a full-time job and going to school is hard. Hating everything about yourself and having to put on a smiling face for your two kids is hard. Just about the only thing he has to make life easier is a golden-retriever-coded himbo of a neighbor, who doesn't seem put-off by Jongseob's sorry excuse for an existence.
Or: Shota teaches Jongseob the importance of self-care, self-love, and even the occasional bit of reckless hedonism.

Jongseob was standing closest to the man, immediately stepping into action. He put on his best comforting expression, twisting his voice and molding it like clay until it sounded sweet and kind. “Sir, do you know who owns this apartment?”
The man’s expression twitched, his eyes already sparkling with tears. “It’s mine. I share it with my older sister Mei.” He took another step forwards. “W-what happened? Is she okay? Please just tell me my sister is okay.”
“Hey,” Jongseob said, stepping in front of the man’s vision, his lips curling into a small smile. “Look at me, not the door, okay? My name is Detective Kim Jongseob of the Central District Seoul Police. What’s your name?”
“Haku Shota...”

“Are you okay?” Keeho asked, following slowly, his face contorted with worry. “Do you not know what day it is?”
“No, I know the day,” Jongseob replied. He pointed at the day that was marked out with red crosses. “It’s the 14th.” He moved his finger up so it was pointing at the month. “Of August.”
Keeho blinked in surprise. “Okay…? Then what’s wrong?”
Jongseob swallowed thickly, turning to look at the gym’s owner. His vision swam slightly, lagging behind a moment as he moved his head. He felt dizzy. “The year. This calendar says it’s 2026. But that’s not true, it can’t be.”
Something hardened in Keeho’s eyes. “What year do you think it is?”
“1986,” Jongseob replied.
