“Hey, Adora. Nice seahorses.”
Adora feels her cheeks burning, and wishes she could blame the mid-morning sun. “Hey, Catra,” she replies weakly. “Nice—” face? Eyes? Skin? That’s a lot of skin. Everything sounds wrong— “swimsuit. Too?”
Thank God Finn is under the water.
Catra leans back, basking in the sun. Rivulets of water trail down the curve of her body, down to where her slight stretch draws Adora’s eye, to her hip, to her waist, to her stomach, to her—

Adora snaps back to her eyes. Which are still open. And still looking at her.

Summer is meant to be a time to relax and recover. That’s what Adora’s heard, at least. They just looked at each other for a moment before breaking into laughter, and the way Catra held out her hand to help Adora off the floor was almost too remnant of their shared past. There had been a few, small moments such as that over the last few weeks, but as quick as they came, they were gone again, and Adora prepared herself for the glaze that she knew would sweep over the eyes in front of her.
But to her surprise, they didn’t.
