Summary

It's been five hundred years since the ancient song called all four Seasons together, with never more than one or two needed at a time in the centuries since, but as Atlas seeks to wash away what makes Mistral and Vale unique under the code of its Rise Of Reason the threat against the free world is great enough to need what hasn't been needed since the Night Of The Black Witch.
And so, driven to act and answer a song carried on the wind and hummed in their dreams, four strangers who remember each other must learn to control the gifts that make them something out of legend, and the ones that come with falling in love over and over and over again.

Summary
Team RWBY's first months at Beacon certainly weren't boring. Between Blake's history with the White Fang, the turmoil of Weiss's possession by the Nightmare, foiling Torchwick in Mountain Glenn, and fighting at the Breach, the girls had been busy from the jump.
But then, with everything momentarily resolved, the academy had a short break before the Vytal Festival, and nothing has been the same since. Their grades are plummeting, the team synergy they'd perfected has crumbled, and nobody is opening up about why.
There are only two months until the Vytal Tournament, and they have to get their act together. But none of them want to be the first to broach what's changed in each of them, and what has been started. After all, evidently the others each went through something far more important than they did. They've all clearly got enough on their own plates.
They don't need to know.

Weiss shoots upright.
It’s silent, utterly and completely, silent.
She huffs, gasps, in and out, over and over and over as she attempts to unscramble the mess that is her brain.
It’s dark, but not as dark as her room was, and her bed is noticeably less cold.
She keeps huffing for breath, for some reason, it feels as if her heart is attempting to escape her chest, like each heaving motion can’t bring in enough oxygen for her lungs. She gasps and splays her hands across her chest in an attempt to feel the rising and falling and convince herself that she’s okay, that she’s all in one piece.
But she can’t hear anything else.

Weiss didn't think it would be this hard to focus in Professor Port's class, not that his tales were really that interesting but she was usually able to jot down notes even with Ruby's small distractions, a small spasm of pain raced up her back left-wing joint reminding her that this wasn't her usual distractions. She grits her teeth through it trying hard to get back to her notes even as her hands tremble with the still-present pain racing up and down her back till it dulled to numb pins and needles.
She knew it was partly her fault, she just didn't have the time or place to stretch them out anymore.

Masquerading as a simple flower shop owner as her civilian self, when there is trouble in her home, she takes the form of Beacon's greatest (and only) hero: Crescent Rose. For years she has worked tirelessly, defeating villains and saving people on a nigh daily basis- and it's starting to wear on her. Ruby, so young and incapable of understanding the reality of what it means to be a werewolf, can only stare up at her mother where she lays curled up in the space of her arms.
“But don’t be afraid.” Summer brushes a finger down the bridge of her nose, succeeding in making her give up the fight of trying to keep her eyes open. Ruby curls up closer to her with a pleased sound, nuzzling into her chest as her mother swaddles her protectively. “I’ll be here to help you through it, my pup. We all will.”
On the ushering hands of sleep, consciousness starts to fade bit by bit. Like droplets of rain kissing her skin. Like sparks of her mother’s magic whenever she puts on a light show for them.
(Like blood spilling from an open wound. Bit by bit by bit.)
The last thing she hears is an unwavering promise;
“You won’t ever be alone, my rosebud. Not if I can help it.”
...
Her mother had been right about two things at least. Ruby isn't able to resist the call of the moon...
And she isn't alone to have to deal through it.
Because she has Weiss there with her the entire time.

“You,” Weiss let out a resigned sigh as she pinched the bridge of her nose, “are a reckless idiot, moonlight.”
A low rumbling whine echoed through the cave they had found themselves in, coming from the giant wolf creature sitting with her head tucked down and ears drooping like a scorned pup. With an array of arrows jutting out from her back like she was doing her best impression of a porcupine.
Silver arrows. Weiss could still pick up on the faint sizzling with her sensitive hearing, could smell the damp blood seeping from her partner’s wounds. A faint pressure at her fangs made for an uncomfortable experience, but she had long since learned how to retain the hunger that came with her vampiric curse.
Besides, werewolf blood was foul.
"You know I'm going to have to take those out."

No one told her that facilitating peace between the wolves and Beacon Academy would be easy, but she never expected it to be so difficult. From the get-go, Weiss and Ruby are chased out of Academy grounds and any possible talk of peace is gone. The only silver lining from the night is being reunited with the final two members of her team, so that her family may be whole again.
But with Ozpin being so against even a simple conversation, it leaves them stuck on how to progress. That, coupled with their growing smaller by the day, terrifying revelations, the Grimm becoming more and more aggressive and powerful, the tension of having the rest of her team in a city of werecreatures once hunted by them, guilts and secrets between all of them... Weiss has no idea how to go about even taking a single step forward. Let alone, keeping her promise of changing things for the better.
It makes her start to wonder... if change is even possible.
Or if this is the life they are destined for.

But on the night of their final exam, to defend her beloved partner, Weiss is bitten by one of the lycans.
And turned into one of the very monsters she was trained to kill.
Thrust into a whole new world, Weiss comes to learn more about these so-called monsters. All the while, missing what she could've had. And coming to terms with the fact that the wolf is now a part of her.

She is taken back to Beacon, and given a chance to live the life she’d never had. The defiance that was supposedly snuffed out reignites, and in time, she will learn who she really is.

So this is an idea that has plagued me for a while. It is probably the darkest premise I have worked with to date. Fair warning going in, this fic has plenty of unhappy moments. But I promise a happy ending. And everyone gets what's coming to them in the end.
