“Oh! That would be Flambae, SDN’s very own pyrokinetic and his flames are hardly the only fiery thing about him,” Blonde Blazer adds, letting out a stifled laugh at her own joke. “I mean—his personality. He’s quite the hothead. It’s a whole thing, but he’s working on it.”
Robert tries his best to keep it together and school his expression, but he doesn’t think he’s very successful. He knows he should turn to the next Z-teamer by now, there’s not enough text in the piece of paper for him to pretend to read, but it’s Flambae. How could anyone look away from the guy? Impossible, really.
“Wow, that’s a pretty intense stare, wait, do you know him? He isn’t one of the villains that want you dead, right? This really was going a little too well…”
“Uh, no. Nothing like that. We have… met. But, he probably doesn’t remember me.”
Robert has spent the past five years of his life as a villain. One mission gone wrong ends up with SDN handing him the proposal of a lifetime—mostly because he would be working alongside a certain hero that controls the fire and the flame, but he guesses not being a wanted criminal is also a perk.

Robert thought he died in the battle against Shroud. A bullet to the head trying to save Beef. Yet when he woke up right after his coma he realized he'd have to handle the insanity all over again from the start.

Summary
When the front desk had triggered the lockdown and called to say Mecha Man was in the SDN lobby with the Astral Pulse in hand, turning himself in, this wasn’t exactly what she expected. Mecha Man was supposed to be menacing. He was supposed to be feared, intimidating, imposing, a force to be reckoned with both in and out of the suit. Someone you looked at and thought, damn. Now that’s a villain.
When Blazer got to the lobby, all she could think was, damn. That’s just a kid.
The same thought returned to her now, watching the shallow rise and fall of Robert’s chest as he slept in the too-big hospital bed. Around either wrist, thick restraints pinned his arms down to the metal frame of the cot. Under the blanket that was draped over his legs, she knew the same restraints were fixed at his ankles, too.
“Feels like overkill,” she muttered, shaking her head again. Chase huffed a laugh, hunching further in on himself.
“It’s not. Kid’s a scrappy motherfucker, always has been,” he said.

Summary
It had been a rough morning.
And rough wouldn’t even begin to describe the absolute cluster-fuck that was this week. But this morning? This morning was rough.
He has a bruise under his leg and in the middle of his ribs, maybe a broken one? He’s not allowed medical until they decide which jail he’s worth, he hopes for a nice middle ground jail, like Sainsbury, or Callum. He knows the prosecution got their jury so it looked like it was about to hurt him, institutionally, and physically.
There’s thousands of little scabs all around his body from his mech exploding. Fuck. His suit. He let his head fall and bang onto the cold metal table, his cuffs jangled at the movement before the metallic fall of his wrists accompanied his head. Right. His fucking mech blew up. Fuck.
Add that to the list of failures, right next to getting caught, and not thinking up a contingency plan to get out.
Or,
Villain Robert is at his lowest, when SDN swoops in and gives him a (...good?) plea deal.

Summary
After fifteen years of throwing himself into danger as Mecha Man, Robert Robertson III finally expects the end to come. During a confrontation with his lifelong nemesis Shroud, Robert is tricked into an ambush that destroys the last of the Mecha Man armor, his family’s legacy, and sends him plummeting to earth in a fiery explosion.
He dies.
And then he wakes up.
Doctors discover that Robert possesses a previously unknown superpower: he can’t die.

Summary
AU where Robert has powers his dad forced him to suppress in his youth. Upon stepping into the role of Mecha Man Blue, Robert runs himself into the ground physically, mentally, and financially to uphold his family’s legacy. It’s what he was born and raised for, after all. He can’t afford to fuck it up. He’s nothing outside of it. His dad was so keen on drilling that into his head.
…with that kind of pressure on him, is it any wonder he starts to act out? It really shouldn’t be surprising that he needs to let off some steam, some charge, so he doesn’t lose his cool doing real hero work. Call him a hypocrite. Call him a supervillain in a hero’s suit. Robert’s long since past the point of caring.
It’s just a shame he’s working so closely with people who know the hallmarks of a real villain a lot better than he would like them to. He’ll have to keep his work and his fun separate, for the team’s sake if nothing else. They mean a lot to him. He genuinely wants to help them succeed in their redemption arcs.
But he has no intention of stopping. Not when he’s finally back in his prime.

Flambae suddenly comments casually, gaining a confused noise from the woman sitting beside him.

Needless to say, that sick feeling was not just his nerves spiraling as Robert collapses to the ground, throwing up whatever he’d managed to eat from his meal, and probably whatever was left from the drinks and the ramen cup from earlier today.
”Ew, what the hell Robert?! You clearly aren’t fine!”
Visi sounds a little panicked now and he could feel couple others check on him too, with Malevola offering him a napkin to wipe his face. Punch Up was crouched beside him - perhaps not necessary with how short he was but anyway - asking if he needed to go to a hospital or something.
”Bitch got a concussion, don’t need a doctor to spell out the obvious.”

Summary
The first Mecha Man to grace L.A. was titled Mecha Man Prime, being the first in the legacy of non-powered humans to make a difference as a hero. The second Mecha Man named himself Astral and made his debut in L.A. as the leader of a group of heroes.
Robert was supposed to be the third Mecha Man. His father would have wanted that for him, but disappointing his father isn't new to him anyway.
In Robert's defense, he had a very valid crash out after his dad was murdered a decade ago. In his opinion, this leads to his very reasonable agenda of hunting down the man who murdered him. It sucks, because it's his target is beloved by the entire damn State.
L.A.'s third Mecha Man, Elliot Connors.
