Erik Lehnsherr and Charles Xavier have never gotten along, it's a school-wide known fact. But when Charles dies in a wrong-place, wrong-time accident that Erik could have prevented, guilt plagues him for weeks; a guilt on which he pins hallucinations, paranoia, and his mental instability.
What Erik can't blame on guilt, however, is seeing Charles sitting at his dining table with his legs crossed and his habitual smirk one afternoon, a month after he died.

“You gonna scream if I move this hand?” Bucky murmurs, breath ghosting over the shell of Steve’s ear and Steve has to stop himself from shuddering before he shakes his head. Bucky’s hand slowly drops to the mattress in front of Steve so that his arm is still draped over Steve’s torso. “What are you doing here, Steve?”
“I could ask you the same thing,” Steve say, voice thick with sleep and Bucky hums, unimpressed. “You know what I’m doing here, Buck, what do you want me to say?”
“I want you to say you’re being an idiot and you’ll stop following me,” Bucky says.
“Not gonna happen,” Steve whispers. “I’ll admit I’m an idiot but I’m not giving up on you.”

He picks up the petal carefully, and finds that it’s real. The silky-soft surface feels fragile between Steve’s fingers, like a piece of tissue paper caught in the wind. Steve stares at it for a while before he’s coughing again, in a fit to rival his childhood bouts of pneumonia.
When he opens his eyes again, he finds three more petals scattered across his sketchbook. There’s an odd, flowery taste in his mouth. He pulls one more off his tongue, and stares at it where it lies against his palm.
Oh god, he thinks, feeling a painful ache starting in the back of his throat. He’s in love with his best friend.

Up close, Bucky saw that, despite his imposing height and broad shoulders, the man’s eyes and cheeks were slightly sunken in, leaving him tired and haggard looking. Even as he tightened his grip on the straps of the backpack he wore, the man still smiled cheerfully at Bucky and nodded.
“That’d be great, thank you, sir.” He followed Bucky back to the parking lot.

Fairy tales need castles and curses and royalty and unrepentant bad guys. If you can find a dragon and an evil fairy and enchanted sleep, well, those are just bonuses. Not if you ask the poor bastards who have to live through them, of course. They'd prefer to have exactly none of it. But fairy tales never ask for permission; it's kind of their hallmark.
The poor bastard of the moment was Prince Steven Grant of the House of Rogers. This time, however, things might not work out entirely in the fairy tale's favour, because the castle happened to be Prince Steven's best friend and, once fairy tales started twisting, you could never tell exactly where they'd stop.

Steve strode back towards the door, not caring for stealth anymore as he reached for the handle. Grasping it in both hands, he tried to push it open. Locked. Grunting, he pressed his shoulder against the metal, pushing with all his weight. It wouldn’t budge, even under his strength.
Shit.
“The door to the freezer,” Steve said, trying again to push on it. “It’s locked.”
