His question is reasonable, Simon thinks. He considers his own image: his brown skin, his dark curly hair, his cheap clothes, his small frame, the words shouted to him in crowded hallways. How does he fit into Wilhelm’s world?
“Because you’re not like any of the others,” Wilhelm says earnestly. He still doesn’t meet Simon’s eyes. “Because I never see anyone else but you, yet you don’t even realize it.”
The next words Wilhelm speaks have engraved themselves so thoroughly into Simon’s brain that he can still imagine the exact tone—the exact way Wilhelm’s mouth formed the syllables—more than two decades in the future.

Wille tapped his arm and mouthed “ask”.
“-ask you, I was going to call and ask you if we could go but kept getting sidetracked.” Simon knew it sounded weak and Sara pulled the car over on the side of the road, putting it in park, “Mamá?”

Simon and Wilhelm didn't get back together, Hillerska didn't close and Wilhelm is still crown prince. Six years after their first meeting, Simon finds himself with a lost looking Wilhelm on his doorstep and no idea of why.

Summary
Simon knows Swedish is his second language, but he's pretty certain 'Kan vi snacka?' roughly translates to 'Can we chat?' And does not, as Wilhelm would have him believe, actually mean 'Can you follow me into this empty classroom?' or 'Can you follow the traced line of my tongue down your body?' or 'Can you follow me, right over the edge? Can you do that for me, baby?'
