Even so, everyone had paid a visit there at least once.

The gull swerved in the air as it got too close to a crow’s nest, and the bigger bird dove towards it, cawing loudly and spreading its talons in warning.
“Like, I have so much potential, you know? I’m really great at everything I do. But I’m nearing my thirties, and I’m still just doing this.”
Brad tapped his cigarettes against his leg, ash falling against his pants. He brushed it off absentmindedly and looked out at the parking lot. “There’s no shame in being a server. Sure, it’s messy, but with tips, you make way more money than a lot of white-collar dudes.”
“Yeah, I know that idiot,” Nicole said, glaring at her fellow server. “But other people don’t, and if I have to listen to another condescending old white woman ask me if I'm ‘ever going to get a real job,’ I’m going to scream.”
Brad hummed and exhaled a plum of smoke. “What would you do instead?”

As Bridgette starts telling her, “I am not saying that!”, Brad tries to shut down his phone. In his haste, though, he accidentally turns off silent mode, and the room is suddenly filled with sharp, loud ringing, a different tone than Nicole’s, but recognizably the sound of a phone call.
“Shit,” Brad curses under his breath, getting a harsh smack on the shoulder from Nicole as reprimand for speaking. But because of the skin-on-skin contact, it’s louder than she expects it to be, all too audible for Bridgette to hear.
Brad quickly shuts off his phone and tosses it to the end of the bed, but the damage is done, and he and Nicole can only tense as Bridgette goes quiet.
“Nicole,” Bridgette whispers into the phone conspiratorially. “Are you with someone right now?”
Nicole looks at Brad, who has panic written all over his face. The answer is obvious. Of course she’s with someone right now.
“No,” she hedges, wincing. “I’m… not with someone right now.”
