Summary
In a theft turned hostage situation, Michael Mason is taken hostage along with a bus-load full of French citizens.
~~~~~
He shouldn't have stayed in France. That was the mantra he'd repeated for the last hour after having been in the wrong place at the wrong time.
"Special Agent, we have your man. You have two minutes." The gunman pulled the phone away from his ear and looked at Michael. "You say anything you're not supposed to and we will shoot you."
Michael swallowed. The phone was put to his ear and tried to steady his breathing as he spoke in English. "Hello?"
"Michael?"
"Briar?"
Summary
As soon as Helena pushes the door closed behind them, she’s hit by the gentle weight of Mark's body as he presses her into the adjacent wall, a gasp suspended in the back of her throat as his lips cover hers. She responds without really meaning to, just muscle memory, her head leaning back into his cupped hand as he protects her from knocking against the hard surface. The act of it is so tender that she can’t take it anymore, can’t take this—something she didn’t earn and doesn’t deserve.
She wedges her hand between them, palm to his chest, and pushes back. The look of hurt that flashes in his eyes is almost enough to pull him back to her.
“I’m—I’m sorry, Helly. Before the OTC… I should’ve kissed you back then; I wanted to. I—I thought—”
“I’m Helena Eagan,” she says, the confession tumbling out as an exhale.
Summary
Mark awakens in the elevator and finds he is holding his hand over his eyes, which is weird. And even weirder, he can make out some letters in his field of vision. It looks like they are floating in the air. He closes his eyes and now sees the outline clearly. It says "Who is alive?"
An AU diverging in one tiny way: when Reghabi shows up while Mark is in his car trying to burn an image into his retinas (S2E3), he decides not to talk to her. This causes all the events of S2 to unfold differently: Mark doesn't start reintegrating that night, and he figures out how to communicate with his innie. Innie Mark doesn't get a nosebleed, so he doesn't miss work, and instead he and Helly try and figure out how to rescue Ms. Casey and find the black hallway. Mark doesn't have experimental brain surgery, and it turns out that not having their brains scrambled leaves both Marks in a better mood with more capacity to cultivate a relationship with each other. Innie Mark arrives at the birthing cabin (S2E9/10) feeling cared for by his outie, and their conversation goes a bit differently. How might this affect their prospects for a successful reintegration and the momentous decision innie Mark will make at the exit stairwell?
