Summary
As it took a few more steps back to that quiet farm, trying to formulate its words, it heard it. A loud howl, followed by several others in a chorus of hate.
Wolves.
The creature started to run.
Or: What if the creature had been a little bit faster to his friend?

Summary
But it’s Elizabeth who truly possesses whatever forms his soul. He doesn’t know if it’s another cruel quirk of his mystical biology—his dreams brought forth into miserable reality—or if her shade has truly risen from the grave. But she is here. She is always here, a bride of Death. Beautiful and open; the only one who looked upon his patchwork flesh and saw the person beneath.

You came to Us in Leaf-Fall, Snow-Man.
You, who walked like a pup, who smelled of the earth and the ones within.
You, who let my daughter climb your blankets, and showed teeth but didn’t eat.AKA

Summary
"Come with me," she said, conspiratorial, and William felt every coherent thought but she cannot mean-- struck from his head with those three breathless words.
"Elizabeth?" he managed, somehow, and she laughed the softest bit.
"I'm going down to see him," she said, "the creature. I want-- I want you to come with me. I want to see if you can see what I see."
Instead of what Victor showed you wafted unsaid.

Summary
As he looked in the mirror, he saw the caring concentration on Elizabeth's face as she brushed his hair. He tried to not wince as his scalp was tugged.
He had never given much thought to what grew out of his head. Once Victor left, it started growing and would not stop. As far as he could tell, it did not do anything. It was the one part of his body that seemed to have a mind of its own.
"What is its purpose?"
“Hair, you mean?”
He gave a small nod, trying to tamp down his embarrassment for asking such an elementary question.
Elizabeth, however, treated it as any other question, as if he had asked for the time. "We're mammals. We all have it somewhere. In animals, it covers their whole bodies for warmth. For us, it simply prefers our heads most of all.”
Us. The word struck him. To Elizabeth, he was no different from her. In doing this act, she was letting him into a part of her existence. Something private, unseen by the outside world. He was willing to go wherever she would lead him.
