With a determined gait, Elizabeth tried her best to avoid Lady Weddleton and took to maneuvering around the outer edge of the ballroom. With her eyes fixed on the veranda doors, Elizabeth barely caught sight of the young lady coming her way, nearly knocking her to the ground.
“Oh, do excuse me!” Lizzy hurriedly moves to help the young woman upright, taking care not to trample on her begonia-pink skirts.
Slate-blue hair slips past the smaller woman’s shoulders, allowing Lizzy to catch a glimpse of creamy, unblemished skin, the color of crème fraîche in her Parisian ballgown. She glances towards Lizzy for half a second before turning away just as abruptly, slivers of hair coming to obscure one half of her alarmingly pretty face. “The fault is mine,” she mutters under her breath as she hastens to move further away.
