Kara blinks up from the food to Lena’s chest—oops—before meeting Lena’s eyes. “Save you?” she says. “Haha. What. Like, uh, like Supergirl? Or whatever?”
“No, silly,” Lena says, smiling so fondly at her that it makes Kara a little lightheaded. “As my bodyguard, of course.”
“Oh right! That’s me!” Kara grins, puffing out her chest and clicking her heels and keeping her eyeline firmly above Lena’s shoulders. “At your service, ma’am. Ready to guard your—um.” She halts. “Your… body,” she finishes, flinching.

She tried to memorize the way May’s eyes crinkled at the corners, the lines around her mouth; the way she looked exactly the same as she always had, even with every line of her gone softer. “I don’t—May, it’s only been—” she laughed, shaky, years blurring together in their warmth and recency.
“I’m not that old, Daisy.”
“I’m not saying you’re old!”
“Really? ‘Cause everyone, lately—”
“Nothing’s allowed to happen to you,” Daisy blurted, suddenly desperate. “You’re—unbreakable, May, you can’t—”
The way May stilled made Daisy’s heart stutter.
“Unbreakable, huh.”

The voice was rich, leathery, and smooth, a controlled belt from the chest of the woman on stage. Mira imagined she could see the concentration in the woman’s closed eyes and furrowed brow, if the stage lights weren’t hitting her from behind, shrouding her in a golden silhouette.
Every bar was effortless. Every note an odyssey.
Mira looked at Zoey. The girl was just as transfixed. More so than Mira, even. But then, Zoey’s attunement to the Honmoon was much stronger than Mira’s. Zoey often said the Honmoon kind of felt like the Ocean from Moana. Mira had never seen it so she had to take Zoey’s word for it.
The Honmoon rippled.

Mira and Zoey are looking to relax and unwind after months of helping Celine at auditions in search of the missing link to their trio. They don't expect to find her working at a nightclub with her patterns on full display.

It burns pink like a permanent scar rooted in her skin and she watches Celine’s face drop. The warmth leaches from her face and her smile freezes.
Unease churns in Rumi’s stomach as the silence stretches thin between them. She doesn't have to wonder what is so bad about her question– she's sure it's something scary and demonic. But– wasn’t it such a beautiful thing to have someone else’s soul breathing with the rest of her, on her skin?
“...are those their soulmarks?” she whispers, letting the sleeve drop back down as she stares at her feet hanging off the edge of the bed.
“Oh, Rumi,” Celine whispers in a rush.
Rumi, like every other person on the planet, is born with soulmarks printed on her body.
