Inspired by Frayed Feathers - A Winged Odysseus AU by FictionForLife_NZ

Penelope saw a glint form in Anticlea’s eyes.

“There’s also our oldest son.” At her words, Laertes smiled, something Penelope could see was forced.

“You are lucky to have been blessed by the gods with a son, Laertes. If he's anything like his father, he will be a fine king,” Icarius replied, seemingly unphased at the tension between the couple. “I would very much like to acquaint myself with your family, if possible.”

“Unfortunately, for all the god’s blessings, our son has been stricken with health issues since childhood. It is unlikely he will be able to take the throne or greet you, great king,” Laertes said, and Penelope could feel him trying to place a lid back onto this topic.

Or, trying to cover up a 'curse' sent by the gods, the royal family of Ithaca attempts to keep the fact that their prince has wings behind closed doors. Fate has decided that Penelope and Odysseus will meet regardless.

    Summary

“My student. Your rule is blessed by the gods. I will give you a gift, the moment the laurels touch your hair, so that any who question your rule will know they also question me.”
Her tone made Odysseus shudder, memories of his patroness’ myths charging through his mind– chiefly that of Arachne, followed by broader myths like Heracles, Jason, Orpheus. The gods were dangerous, even to those who earned their love. Still, he managed a nod.
“Thank you, Lady Athena. For your faith and your gift.”

OR-- Athena gives a thirteen year old Odysseus wings. In typical mythological fashion, it's not pretty.

This fic is going to update slowly and sporadically, because I (the author) am apparently prime Writer's Block target practice
