“Sweet Pea.” Betty breathes his name like a prayer.
His gaze snaps to hers instantly. The man seems to have trouble burying his surprise. Whether it’s due to her appearance, the girl in her arms, her tone, or her recollection of him she’s unsure.
Sweet Pea crosses his arms as he rests his elbows on the table. “Betty Cooper.”
There’s something warm about the way he says her name. Almost like there’s a sliver of fondness in his tone. She has no time to dissect it. It’s getting late and if she does not want her daughter to sleep in the backseat of the car overnight she needs to explain. Anxiety spools deep in her chest. As much as she believes in their character, it has been years. She has no real understanding of their loyalty or ethics at this point. All she can do is take the leap and hope they won't throw her out.

When Peter Parker is twelve his Aunt May has a mental break and he's shipped off to foster care for the first time under the care of Steven Westcott. Peter leaves foster care with new powers and more trauma than he can handle, vowing to never see "Skip" again but luck has never been a Parker trait when May hits another wall. While he is living with the Avengers this time the memories of his last time in the foster system won't leave his mind and Peter isn't coping. Tony is worried and Peter is keeping his mouth firmly shut. Will he be able to make it back home without spilling the beans or will the Avengers be able to break down his walls?

Peter’s heart was racing at the fact that he not only shared a super-enclosed space alone with Captain America, but he probably looked like some weird awkward geek with no social skills whatsoever! The mere thought of seeming like a weirdo in front of one of his idols gives him a mini panic attack.
No. keep it together Parker. Losing your cool now would just be more humiliating. Don’t give people another reason to look down on you.
He takes a deep breath and looks up slowly, avoiding eye contact with the two other people in the room, taking more interest in the windows, showing New York City’s elegant skyline, illuminated by the morning sun. Looking at it makes him feel slightly better.
OR Peters is back after his break following the events of The Amazing Spider-Man 2, only to be sucked into the Avengers world-saving shenanigans. He might also fall in love with a certain star-spangled captain :0
