Summary
Background to this fic: It's set a few months after the season 3 finale. After Will and Hannibal survived the fall, they came to an understanding about the future, including accepting their feelings for one another; they are a couple, and still lying low from the police. They made their way to France with fake identities set up by Hannibal, and have been living together quietly in Marseille.
They decide to indulge on a rare evening out, to a high-society restaurant (as if Hannibal could resist evening dining out in France.) One of the waiters appears to take a shine to Will, which Will plays on just for fun, to try and get a rise out of his ever-unflappable beloved; his game changes however into a suggestion which both stuns and delights Hannibal. The murder husbands are finally at work, and of course, at play.

Canon universe, set at the end of season 3, episode 2. Will has gone into the catacombs beneath the Palazzo in Italy, confident that Hannibal is hiding there. He speaks his forgiveness, but rather than quietly letting Will leave, Hannibal decides to reveal himself, resulting in a tense, emotional reunion. A passionate argument between the two men comes to a head, followed by a realisation, and desire finally takes hold of them both.

Todd is an asshole, he knows this about himself – even with Dirk's pep talk in the woods more than a year ago, all he can do is to try his best to suppress his natural asshole-ish instincts. He knows he's going to fuck up eventually, and hates that he knows that Dirk will forgive him when he does. His first response to every tough situation is to lash out or walk away; it's only with great effort that he makes the right decision, continues to support Dirk, works the cases until their close. He's an asshole.
Dirk knows this about Todd, and knows that it makes Todd an incredibly good and brave person.

“Perhaps a new beginning, then – for both of us.” Hannibal raised his eyebrows a fraction, his head tilting slightly.
“Are you offering something?” asked Will, cautiously. They both knew what he was offering, if not the specifics, and Will was at war with himself. The part of him that knew it would be a terrible idea for all sorts of obvious reasons was beginning to give ground to the part that would always want to run away with Hannibal – the part that was compelled by the monster, fascinated in spite of himself. His pulse leapt almost imperceptibly.
“An end to the chase.” Dr. Lecter’s deep maroon eyes held Will whole; he felt almost as paralyzed as he’d been under Cordell’s knife for a moment. Finally, he said,
“Where would we go?”
