Summary
In this canon-divergent reimagining of Season 8, Mulder’s return marks the beginning of a painful and complex reckoning.
The world he knew has changed—his work has moved on without him, and Scully, now seven months pregnant, stands before him both familiar and achingly distant. Haunted by PTSD and unable to process the trauma of his abduction, Mulder retreats inward, struggling to find his place in a life that no longer feels like his own.
For Scully, his return is a miracle shadowed by heartbreak. She is overjoyed he's alive, but his emotional distance deepens the loneliness she endured during his disappearance. As both grapple with grief, change, and unspoken fears, they must learn to navigate this new chapter together—where patience, healing, and love will be their only way back to each other.
Note: This reimagining of Season 8, offers an alternative path in which Mulder’s emotional distance is explored with greater nuance—granting him the space to confront his trauma and better understand the weight of his experiences. At the same time, it allows Scully to articulate her own heartache and find validation in the profound grief she endured during his abduction, presumed death, and eventual return.

Summary
To keep a closer eye on Mulder and Scully, Kersh assigns Special Agent in Charge (SAC) Dean Quinn to oversee their operations. With an extensive background as a behavioral analyst, Quinn possesses a remarkable ability to decipher human behavior, enabling him to anticipate and manipulate others. Mulder's instinctive distrust towards Quinn is immediate, convinced that his presence is intended to undermine their work. Scully, however, holds a contrasting perspective, finding herself drawn to Quinn's enigmatic persona.
Unbeknownst to Mulder, Scully and Quinn spark an intimate relationship, hidden from the prying eyes of their colleagues. Scully deliberately keeps their relationship concealed, even from Mulder. However, Quinn is not the person she perceives him to be.
As time progresses, Mulder begins to detect subtle changes in Scully's demeanor, sparking his determination to uncover the truth she is so fervently guarding.

This story is about all those scenes that happened off-screen in All Things (season 7). To me, this was the first time Mulder and Scully slept together and I remember feeling so happy for them.
Some people might argue with that, but that’s okay!Bookmarked by Purplefirefly1983
