It's not like I go in, so I can't see if they're all okay. But it just…" He trailed off. "It just helps, I guess. Seeing the lights out in their rooms." He looked over at Eddie. "Yours are almost always on though. 'S weird."
Eddie blinked several times. "You drive past my place?" He was weirdly touched. He couldn't even find it in himself to make a stupid joke about it.

In a way, Steve was kind of grateful for the swift intervention.
He knew now, after all, that most people in the world didn't have the ability to pick out people's emotions, and in a town like Hawkins he wouldn't have lasted long if he commented on every feeling he encountered. It was the reason why despite everything, he had turned out normal, despite all of life's attempts to turn him into something other than a popular somewhat dim-witted jock.And then one day he’d walked into the Byers household and been slapped in the face with the most godawful aura he'd ever experienced in his life, and he just knew he wasn’t going to be coming back from this.

Steve has secret powers, which isn't really an issue except he's now dealing with his unexpected feelings(tm) for one Eddie Munson and suddenly things just got a lot more complicated. Also, he has the nasty habit of blowing shit up when he gets stressed which makes the whole 'secret' part of his powers hard.
The situation is totally and completely under his control, he just has to plan this stupid 'We saved the world (again)' party and he should be fine.

Summary
In the grand scheme of things, it had almost become a little bit banal; the crazy, world ending situations that Steve had managed to get himself into and actually, watching Vecna getting torn to absolute shreds by what they presumed was El in his own mind was kind of par for the course with his life at that point. Strangely, what was lightyears more exhilarating was seeing the faces of Dustin and Eddie as they booked it like hell out of the Creel house and back towards the trailer.
That excitement drained like bath water down the plug as soon as they were close enough to realise that Dustin was heaving Eddie with all his might though. His face white and sticky with sweat as he hefted Eddie into his arms towards their combined destination.

Eddie may have survived the Upside Down, but he's still suspect numero uno. While Stinson wrangles his innocence with the US government, the Harrington home becomes a safe haven for him in hiding. As does Steve.

That was when he saw them.
The two figures were folded over each other on the ground, a ring of dark shapes crumpled and curled around them. Webbed, membranous wings fluttered lifelessly in the wind, lifting at odd angles like plastic bags on the interstate.
But Steve could barely see them.
His ears rang, his vision reduced to a greyish tunnel as he recognised the wooly texture of Dustin’s ghillie suit.

Steve’s feet tripped beneath him as he staggered down the hill, moving towards them.
No hero moves, his thoughts washed through his mind in a seasick, rolling fashion. He could already see the dark wash of blood, soaking the ground like ink around them, as he bolted forward.
I said no hero moves.

Steve Harrington, ex-lifeguard and babysitter extraordinaire, happens to be blessed with knowledge of first aid. Eddie is the recipient of this aid, and as he recovers he must learn to live with the fact that he owes his life to a prom-king with a 12 step haircare routine. This would be easier if he didn’t find said prom king so uncomfortably attractive.
And if the world would stop ending for five minutes.
