"For the universe," Allura corrects with a smile, and it's mostly joking, and kind of corny but also so fitting, and it makes the remaining tears in Keith's eyes fall unapologetically.
Lance squeezes his hand and Krolia's hand tightens on his shoulder, and Hunk moves away and then returns again with the cake in his hands, a single candle sitting aflame in its center. Everyone shifts just enough to make room, unwilling to let him go completely.
"Make a wish," Krolia says softly.

Summary
Keith is returning from deployment overseas, officially released from duty in the military. However, his first stop back in the states isn’t the place he expected to be - the funeral of his military partner Miguel McClain.
There he meets Lance, the younger brother of the fallen soldier, along with the other grieving members of the McClain family. Unsure of the next steps in his life and unable to separate his military and civilian life, Keith looks to the one place he can even consider home - the family Miguel loved and left behind.
Using group therapy, meeting new people, and becoming closer with the McClain family, Keith tries to put his life back together and live past the tragedy of losing his best friend. In turn, he grows a bond with Lance and realizes that maybe Miguel was right along - the two seemed made for each other.

Atlus is a large that was the latest of Earth's attempts to colonize planets outside of their solar system, resulting in what eventually became a futuristic civilization that would come to attract all natures of creatures from across the Universe, eventually losing touch with their Terran roots. From this estranged colony would spawn all sorts of unique technology and lifeforms, and among them would be the primarily-Earthling contingent known locally as "Voltron", a close-knit, rag-tag gang of engineers, fighters, and gamblers that all had one thing in common; their knack for both solving and creating problems across Atlus and the rest of the Universe. They would hardly ordain themselves as any sort of defenders of anything, but when the Universe calls upon them to provide aid, they take it upon themselves to answer the call (given that they're provided adequate payment for their services, of course).
