Chipp frowns. There's not really a platonic way to say "oh, I'm thinking about you both even though you're married", so he's not quite sure what to offer up. Of course, he could lie and make up some shabby excuse about being president, but he's got a terrible tell-- at least, Baiken can read him like a book.
So, rather than voice his thoughts, Chipp lets out an embarrassing "Hnnrmggh," and then a surprised gasp following it. That's not how you impress a beautiful woman and her beautiful husband, not that that's his end goal, mind you.
OR
Chipp is NOT in love with either his best friend or his wife. He isn't, not even though they're devastatingly gorgeous or-- uhh, nevermind.

Not that he didn’t find girls super hot, he just didn’t really know what the hell his entire problem had been for the past several months to keep pushing the idea that hitting it off with a stranger was what would really fulfill him when his heart actually skipped to the goddamn moon when Akira so much as glanced at him with those stupidly intent eyes of his. Eyes that seemed to see him for who he really was, more than anyone else in his life ever had.
And that was the problem.
“Hey, ‘Yuji! Before I forget!” A voice, warm and casual, called to him from the same place as the click-clack of the kettle being prepared. Ryuji’s mom set the tea down, and rounded the counter to see him off. He paused, in slight annoyance, to listen. “Miko’s wedding is this Saturday. Remember her? Well, for some reason, she remembered us enough to send us invites.”
(Ryuji goes to a wedding, and more than one surprise waits for him there.)

Ryuji adjusts his stance, wondering if he should head around to the other side of the fence and lean against it that way. It does mean Akira has a higher chance of noticing him here, but it’s not like Ryuji is trying to avoid that. They’re friends, and Akira wouldn’t mind it if he spotted Ryuji nearby, even if he is gawking shamelessly. It would mean time taken away from watching Akira’s run, though, and as silly as it is to admit, even in his head… Ryuji just doesn’t want to do that.
It makes him… itchy, he thinks, to watch this. It’s not about Akira. As previously stated, Akira’s running posture is absolutely flawless. He’s flawless, in other ways as well, the way his black curls are swept back by the wind, the focused determination in his eyes, as hard as it is for Ryuji to make them out at this distance—there’s nothing wrong with this routine, no possible points of criticism Ryuji could give…
But he’s itchy.

“So like…” Ryuji scratches the back of his neck. “Did you know that this was, uh…”
Akira shakes his head. Makoto had done the booking. He’d just followed along and trusted her to do what was right. He’s rethinking that trust now as he hefts his bag and shuffles inside the room, eyeing the source of their current predicament.
After the hours of driving they’ve been doing, even the sight of the single bed with its minimal sheets and old mattress is appealing, especially given that Akira spent the better part of his high school years sleeping on milk crates. He drops his bag and holds his arms out in front of him, framing the bed with his hands. It certainly isn’t the smallest bed he’s ever seen. It could easily fit two, maybe three people his age if they all squished on together.
That’s just the thing, though. It’s also the only bed in here.

haru’s eyes fell solemnly on a bright cake that hid in the corner of the display. the sun’s rays stretched over its exterior, and was just able to bring the shine of the freshly glazed cake into vision. the seamless yellow buttercream hid any imperfections that the cake could offer, whilst the accented flowers contrasted the mellow, mature tone with a touch of lilac. the contrast was subtle, yet appealing to the eye. the ruffles in the buttercream surrounded it like a petticoat, giving the design a softness that could even calm a rough heart like ryuji’s. its placard said it was a lemon cake, and the blond could already imagine the bittersweetness on his tongue.
however, he could also see it in haru’s eyes.
