He knew it was a lost cause when the wolf turned fully, lips pulled back from its sharp teeth—so very sharp, good fucking Lord!—and began walking towards Stiles.

There was something about the Renaissance that was both incredibly overwhelming as well as painfully familiar.
In many ways, it felt like home. In other ways, it was nothing like Desmond had expected it to be.The Animus was not entirely accurate in its depiction of the time. It left some things out and changed others but it was definitely close enough for Desmond to get by. Rome was very different from how it was in Desmond’s time but the layout was mostly the same as were the larger buildings like the Colosseum and the Vatican.
It made Desmond believe everything had all been a bad dream. That he was still underneath Villa Auditore, hiding from the Templars while spending countless hours inside the Animus. Only when he got out of the Temple and got to the surface did he realise that this was not the case. This was not just Heavy Bleeding, like Desmond experienced the past few weeks, this was real. Terrified at the implications, Desmond did what he had been taught to do best.
He hid.

'Well?' Grell wants to demand, impatient. 'Are you the one that reaps the reapers?' But the only noise that comes from her ruined throat is a sickening gurgle, a fresh wave of blood dribbling from her lips.
The Undertaker looks at her like some sort of long-lost treasure.
“Finders, keepers,” he whispers.
Vaguely, she knows that those words should terrify her. But she doesn’t have enough blood left in her brain to register the feeling. Instead, as he tenderly picks her up with one arm around her back and the other under her knees, just before the pain of being moved makes everything go black, her only thought is how romantic it is, that she gets to die in someone’s arms this time.

(Fifteen years after Sebastian wins Ciel’s soul, Undertaker finds Grell dying in a graveyard. She wakes in his bed with a ring around her finger.)

“Chil!” the stranger greeted him with use of his shortened name, which immediately set Chilchuck’s temper to a higher flame. It was a half-foot, young and blonde. Tall, but not quite as tall as him. And he definitely did not know him.
“Who are calling Chil, huh? I’m not your friend, I don't know who you are!” Chilchuck seethed. “Now leave me alone!”
He tried to close the door, but the man stuck his foot out to jam it open.
“Wait! Chil, please, it’s me!” His voice cracked in a familiar way, and Chilchuck actually paused, looking the other half-foot in the eye to see a golden gaze he knew very well. “It’s Laios!”
(Laios turns himself into a half-foot, and whether or not it's an accident, the change it stirs in their relationship definitely isn't.)
