Ryuji just doesn't know when to quit. Why the hell did he promise a reward to Akira after seeing him run laps? Obvious excuse to hang out with him aside, the treat he's alluding to barely counts as such. Especially to someone like Akira who could probably invent a new kind of drink altogether if he put his mind to it.
Still, if Ryuji can't be there running alongside Akira, then he ought to support the guy in another way. Sure, it's a bit lame and Ryuji hasn't made a post-run drink like this since his track days, but for Akira he'd happily dust off the recipe if it means giving back to his best friend.
