“Well. Look what T.J Maxx dragged in.”
Nigel smirked, his fingers gingerly slipping onto the handles of his bag.
Miranda’s eyes lingered on Andy’s frame a bit before cocking her head to her side, eyebrows seemingly knitting themselves together.
Andy stood her ground, prepared for the lecture. She felt she deserved the rebuke if it meant carving out her own path.
Yet, in hindsight, the sting of regret remained: Miranda Priestly hadn’t deserved that betrayal.
Miranda lifted her hand. “Sorry,” she said, now facing Nigel, “who is this?”
Andy’s heart dropped into an uncharted hollow of her chest, a place so heavy and unfamiliar it felt like she was carrying someone else’s ghost.
Did Miranda really forget who Andy was?
