    Summary

"You aren't allowed to die without me, mackerel. If you go, I go. We do it together or not at all."

Dazai Osamu thought allowing himself to be captured by the Port Mafia is just another move on the board. He’s prepared for the shackles and the damp stone of the dungeon. Most of all, he’s prepared for the magnificent, violent entrance of Nakahara Chuuya, the inevitable explosion of gravity he’s missed for four years.

But the door doesn't break. Akutagawa looks at him with a pity that feels like a death sentence.
Dazai spent two years undercover to save his soul, assuming his partner was busy cursing his name. He didn't know that during those years of absolute silence, Chuuya was busy dragging the Tsurumi River for a body that didn't exist. He didn't know that the car bomb was a "parting gift" was interpreted as a suicide note Chuuya failed to stop.

Now, Dazai is standing in a dusty office filled with letters addressed to a ghost and a hat left in a crater. Chuuya is gone. He vanished four years ago, convinced Dazai broke their pact.
Soukoku is a balance of two. If Chuuya is gone, Dazai is hovering over an abyss. He’ll burn Yokohama to find him one blood-stained coordinate at a time.

    Summary

Eye-patch came off. Scarcely ever did, and each time Fyodor was oddly charmed by Nikolai’s mismatched eyes. Whether one, or perhaps both, were contact lenses or heterochromia was natural, that he couldn't know – seldom is the line dividing truth from lies set in stone, very much like the one separating sanity from utter madness – living and breathing example of the fallacy was right in front of his eyes.

Nikolai rested chin on a palm and leaned forwards. “Tell me Dos-kun, what do you think is the worse”, he murmured in equally sentimental and derisive tone, as if vacillating between scorn and affections. Despite the sorrowful smile there was something in Nikolai’s expression that alarmed.

“To clip bird’s wings or to take its voice away?”

In which Nikolai, driven to brink of madness by love, saves Fyodor from death and helps him recover. Except now that he finally has Fyodor within arm’s reach he won’t be so willing to let go.

    Summary

It starts like it always does—a job, a drink, and Dazai pushing just far enough to get a reaction. Chuuya should be used to it. Should know better than to play into his hands. But some people carve too deep to forget, and Dazai has always been a knife at his back—and a shadow he never stops searching for.

Dazai tells himself it’s just habit—the same game and dance that keeps them from thinking too hard about the things left unsaid. But Chuuya has never been predictable in the ways that matter, and for the first time in years, Dazai feels it—that split-second of uncertainty, knowing he’s pushing too hard but refusing to stop. Because stopping means acknowledging the shift. And if he does, Chuuya might see through him—or worse, walk away for good.

Because the problem with knowing someone too well is they always know where to cut deepest. To hurt or to heal.

And when the lines between past and present blur, between resentment and something dangerously close to affection—

Well. They’ve always been good at walking a blade’s edge. It’s just a question of who falls first

    Summary

Chuuya snorted. Took another pull. The glass hung from two fingers before he set it down, careful. Not gentle—just deliberate. Could still smash it over someone’s head if it came to that. “You trying to get thrown off a building, or just stupid?”

The tongue-click that followed was loud enough to be performative. “ Ouch. And here I thought I was being considerate.”

“You showing up uninvited’s a lot of things, Dazai. Considerate doesn’t make the list.”

    OR

After a job that leaves more bruises than it should, Chuuya heads for higher ground—just to breathe, just to be alone.

But when Dazai shows up uninvited—same old grin, same old ghosts—Chuuya doesn’t tell him to leave. Not this time. Not tonight.

They talk around things. Share a smoke. Let the silence do the heavy lifting.

It’s brittle and tense and aching in places they won’t name—but for all the years and damage between them, something still holds.

    Maybe it’s not peace.

    But maybe it’s something close...
