The old building seems to hiss. Nanami puts his arm out, rotates his head in every direction, but he can't see anything.
“Gojo?”
Mist thickens each inhale, makes laborious work of just existing. Gojo's flashlight is lying on the floor, its beam aiming fruitlessly into the swirling fog, illuminating nothing.
“Gojo, where are you?”
Nothing replies.
Then something goes boom on the floor above, a collision or an explosion, the sound tearing through the walls, and Nanami cranes his neck to look up. Plaster and dust rain down on him, the ceiling bulging downwards, cracks spider-webbing across the surface. He steps back out of the way, unsure if it'll hold.
Then somebody screams.~
A mission goes south, and Nanami comes face to face with real fear.

Suguru squeezed Satoru’s hand and smiled. "We’re almost there, come on."
But Satoru didn’t answer. He wasn’t even looking at Suguru. His eyes were fixed on the ground, his mind miles away. And Suguru’s heart was pounding so hard in his chest he felt sick.
He hadn’t felt this lost since Ruko’s death. He hadn’t felt this lost since he’d seen blood dripping from her head. He hadn’t felt this lost since Satoru had pinned him under his two dead eyes before asking him whether they should kill hundreds of people.
Suguru could hardly breathe. Anxiety was drilling at his skull. He wanted to scream or collapse in on himself. He needed to find Shoko. He needed to find her now. He couldn’t deal with this, whatever this was. He was going to screw everything up.
In a way, he already had.

Gojō stopped playing with his chair and looked outside, where Getō sat in the school courtyard. "No, not really."
Shōko eyed him. Gojō had been strangely calm over the last few days. But she couldn't tell if that was his new normal or not. He had spent little time in the school after the failed Star Plasma Vessel mission. He was always needed somewhere. He was avoiding them. But then, three days ago, he came back, eyes bandaged and cracking a smile. She might have been relieved, if he hadn't seemed so lost.
They were slipping through her fingers, he and Getō. And Shōko had no idea how to fix it.

In one universe, Yuuji, Megumi and the rest of their ragtag group go see Tengen, get the back of the prison realm, find a way to release Gojo, and Nobara wakes up from her coma only long after Gojo has died.
In this universe, there are three turning points that change everything.
1. Nobara wakes up early. Nobara wakes up much earlier than she would have originally.
2. Because Nobara wakes up early, she is able to join the others when they go see Tengen.
3. The trio bicker as they always do, even though they're in the tombs of the star corridor, and instead of leaving the tomb after the meeting with Tengen they instead get... lost.They get lost within the tomb, then a wrong door open leaves them lost within time itself and then Yuji wakes up and realizes three more things:
1. He is alone and has no idea where Nobara and Megumi are (for now)
2. He is thirteen years in the past

It was a small, gray box that resembled a rock. When he picked it up, it was surprisingly light for what he thought was a rock. He was really startled when the rock opened a blue eye. It was the prettiest blue eye he had ever seen! But it did nothing more than blink a few times before closing.
So, it wasn’t a rock; instead, it was a really cool mechanical box! Izuku’s four-year-old brain went wild over this incredible discovery, so naturally, as any four-year-old would do, he took it home.

The entire thing was lopsided and drooping to the left—a decent chunk falling away from the rest. Underneath the top layer of vanilla frosting was a thinner, glaze-looking substance that Gojo guessed was a failed attempt at decorating the cake. Suguru had made the same mistake once of trying to add the frosting when the cake was too warm. If that weren't enough of a hint as to who made it, then the writing on top would have left no doubts.
Scrawled in blue frosting were the words, Happy Birthday, Saturo!. Surrounding it was a handful of candles and a rainbow of sprinkles—so many sprinkles. There had to be at least an entire container's worth covering the top, with a few loose sprinkles scattered around the table. At least that answered the mystery of why Shoko suddenly needed him to pick up sprinkles.

Satoru’s heart sunk in an instant, and his feet scuffed as he came to a stop. The energy around them had changed, and he sensed an unfamiliar anxiousness from Nanami.

“Do you live out here?” The boy asked, and Sukuna thought for a moment before shrugging. He didn’t live here specifically, but he did live in the woods. “Hmm, cool. I’m Satoru, we’re going to be best friends.” He grinned after that, so wide and blinding that all of his eyes closed, and Sukuna, against his will, thought it was adorable.
He grunted, thinking for a second before muttering “Sukuna,” nodding at the boy. Satoru grinned, finally opening all of his eyes to peer around Sukuna and look at the river, quickly bolting by his shoulder not even a moment later. Sukuna shook his head, chuckling under his breath as he walked towards the other boy, who had already taken purchase next to his hastily-made campfire. He’s intrigued by this boy, he can admit it, and he feels anticipation thrumming under his skin.
As he sits down next to Satoru at the fire, he realizes that this boy was the first person to ever look at him.
He doesn’t know what to do with that.
