He blinked down at the boy, afraid to move even his still outstretched arm as Fullmetal took in a large, shuddering breath and let it out slowly. As if that was all he needed, the golden head retreated. Then, without even a passing glance at Roy, Fullmetal silently started shuffling toward the exit of the station."

When the Fullmetal Alchemist is sent on a mission to Western Command to infiltrate a group of teenagers who are sending people across the Amestrian boarder for illegal purposes, he comes back two weeks later with rather severe trauma. The mission was successful, but at what cost? Mustang, as well as his team and Alphonse, try to bring back the once fiery teenager as the military works to get the Fullmetal Alchemist back onto the field, no matter what they have to do.
(This is mostly a trauma-recovery fic with a few twists and turns along the way. I'm not very good at summaries, but I hope you give it a try!)

Ed doesn’t let her come with him on his quest, or tell her the full truth of where it leads him. He doesn’t ask her for advice or talk to her about how he’s feeling. But he comes to her, again and again, for this. Edward Elric does not need anyone’s help or support or kindness, but he needs a leg to stand on and an arm to work alchemy with, and he trusts Winry with providing them without a second thought.
This is the only thing Ed will let her do for him. And so she does it, and she does it excellently.

After five years stuck in an armor, Alphonse was finally back to his original body. It didn't come without challenges though. Thankfully, Edward, Winry and his friends are there to support him as he gets used to his body and to his daily life again. And, most importantly, as he checks the items in his food list.
