Summary
He survived the library. Now comes the hard part: living.
Ash makes it out. But surviving was never going to be the finish line. Recovery is messy, and nobody hands you a manual for "after."
These stories will explore that after; hospital rooms, healing, found family, the people who refuse to let go of him, the slow, stubborn work of learning to be loved. And somewhere along the way, it becomes the road to a life in Tokyo.
Most of these will focus Ash and Eiji, but some will zoom in on the other people in their lives!

Summary
This is a Banana Fish "fix-it" series. I started back in 2018 (or 2019, honestly I don't remember), after finishing the anime and manga.
I picked it back up in 2020, and never really stopped since, it just kept growing. I never intended to post this, but after encouragement from a friend, here we are!The first part (Mercy, After All) is the series prologue, explaining how Ash survives being stabbed by Lao.
That's followed by a collection of interludes (What Came After), short stories started during lockdown, covering the road from post-canon to Ash and Eiji building a life together in Japan.
Once those are posted, I'll share the real monster of the project: Ash and Eiji dropped into Tokyo's underground, hangure networks, and a whole world grounded in modern-day Tokyo. This part has taken over the last few years of my life, in the best and worst ways ( ◡‿◡ *)
It's already over 400,000 words, but still a WIP rather than a finished story.I'll try to update regularly, but it still needs rewriting and continuity checking, so please bear with me.
Every part of this series also stands on its own, no need to read the whole thing if only one piece catches your interest.

Summary

Summary
Ash reads the letter twice, and the second time, alongside the animal that has learned helplessness, some part of him that he thought had died with Shorter, or with Griffin, or years before either of them, cracks out of its shell and blinks. It's not joy, and certainly not hope; just the knowledge that if he reaches out his hand in the dark, it will be met by one warmer than his own.
He thinks that's probably the only real mercy his life was ever going to hand him, and that he used up his allotment of it by just being loved a single time.
