“You are not welcome here,” Lan Xichen then says and Jiang Cheng frowns.
Is there someone else with them? Surely Lan Xichen did not just say that to his brother or his brother-in-law.
“Xichen-ge,” Wei Wuxian whines and it’s so familiar that Jiang Cheng can’t help the little quirk of his mouth.
“No. He is not welcome in the Cloud Recesses and you all know it.”
“Wen Ning didn’t do anything!” Wei Wuxian protests and Jiang Cheng tenses.
Of course it would be Wen Ning, he’s following Wei Wuxian around like a lost little puppy. Jiang Cheng has to remind himself to unclench his hand, otherwise he might break one of Lan Xichen’s favourite tea cups and while he’s at it, he takes a deep breath, too.

There was a story, pieced together in bits and drips and drabs, half gossip and a quarter innuendo, that made absolutely no sense to him.
One of his oldest friends eloped? With a woman??? Something wasn't right at the Cloud Recesses.
Thankfully, he had the perfect chaos gremlin in mind to ferret out the truth of the situation between Qingheng-Jun and Madam Lan.
Even if he had to break every last one of their almost three thousand rules to manage it.

The crunch of ice behind Erestor made him sigh. He knew without turning that Glorfindel would be standing at the top of the hill, feet just denting the crusted ice that had formed over the heavy snow that had fallen during the winter storm. It wasn't fair. Erestor wasn't the one who humiliated himself in front of a host of noble elves from around Arda in the Hall of Fire. No, that award went to Glorfindel, who thought, in his drunken stupor, to tell them all of Erestor's letter where he had confessed his feelings to the great blond oaf. The lovely little letter had become the topic of multiple rounds of poetry, much to Erestor's horror. Even Bilbo tried to stop it, and the old hobbit loved to meddle in love affairs.
