Summary
The first time the demon Crowley had seen Witchfinder Lance Corporal Thomas Shadwell had been in the backroom of a pub in late July 1967, when he set down payment for the robbing of a church. Though he'd cancel the heist, it wouldn't be the last time he spoke with the lad, no, not in the slightest. There was much more ahead for them than mere palaver before they reached the end times.
Beginnings and endings, those landmarks are easy to draw upon the map. It’s the middle that gets tricky. We never know how long we have in the middle of something until suddenly, wham!, someone’s delivering the bad news and the other's left holding the basket.
But here in London, the end isn't nigh just yet for the fallen angel and the thief who's stealing a piece of his heart.

"I'm Adam," he said. And the boy was called Warlock.

Over the years stuck in Arthur’s kingdom, Crowley had indulged more and more in the respite of sleep. They’d fully grown to love it. What they did not love was that sleep getting interrupted. “Not today. Lemme sleep.”
“I didn’t come all this way,” he said, “just to be shooed off like a common kitchen boy.” His voice was too prim to be one of Crowley’s troupe.
The demon shot upright, tossing aside the sheepskin in their momentary panic. The haze of dream-edges evaporated with the dawn of recognition. “Angel.”
(Or, What if Aziraphale and Crowley throughout the ages, but a first kiss of some kind always happens? In Wessex, Crowley enjoys a pleasant afternoon with his hereditary enemy...)
