Summary
While sifting in flour, Serena tried to remember the spontaneous trip to Galar she had taken last year, which led to her spending the holidays with Ash. She didn’t remember all that was exactly discussed on what made Christmas so great for him. She knew a lot of it had to do with spending time with his mom when he leads a normally chaotic life, but that was delayed for now. It seemed that the natural course of action, then, was to try to make a Christmas that was exactly like the way Ash and Delia celebrated.
She still didn’t know what that looked like, exactly, but she had been surrounded by obnoxious Christmas adverts for 17 years, and she knew Ash. She could make it work.

In an attempt to show Ash (and herself) that she could enjoy Christmas as well, Serena takes on the task of making the best impromptu Christmas ever.

Summary
What would she even do if Ash did answer the door? Serena didn’t plan that far ahead, and she certainly wasn’t in the headspace for a holiday party at the moment. She bit her cheek as she looked down at the present in her hand. She never quite got the affinity around Christmas, and the last time she properly ‘celebrated’ was when she traveled with Ash in Kalos. If she didn’t understand it then, why would she now?
The gift was silly anyways.

Ash loves Christmas. Serena... doesn't. Both are alone for the holidays, and neither know quite how to cheer the other one up.

“I,” Hunter coughed into his hand, failing to clear his tight chest. “I don’t want to bother you.”
Willow’s slightly outstretched hand halted. “Is that a no? I would like to help, but if you’re sure.”
Hunter tried to keep his eyes locked on the ground, as their mirror made his stomach swoop, and Willow’s gaze did the same for different reasons. He squared his shoulders and shook his head.
“No, I- I would lik- I mean, if you want to help.”
She nodded. “I do.”

Hunter doesn't know who he's supposed to be. Willow knows the feeling.

Summary
Serena hesitated, like she always did, but Ash didn’t wait for her answer. He took her hand into his own and pulled her up, letting her lean heavily on him as she stumbled forward over her weak leg.
And with that, Serena got the answer to her question; no, not every Kanto kid was like this. Because no one else had offered her a hand when she needed it, no other kid went out of their way to talk to her, Arceus, she wasn’t sure the last time she was given a genuine smile from one of her peers. Ash definitely wasn’t like any kid here at camp. She wondered if he was like any kind of kid in the world. He was so… different.
Maybe Serena needed a little different.

5 times Ash took Serena’s hand, and 1 time she reached for his.

The man hovering over him leaned back, releasing Grian completely. Cold night air rushed in to fill the void.
“I guess it’s out in the open now,” the stranger hummed. “Shame. I wanted to avoid this.”
With the additional glow occupying the space between them, Grian was finally able to catch features that were lost in the prior darkness. His curiosity outweighed all else, and he drank them in greedily. As soon as he saw who sat across from him, alarms blared in his mind.
This man wasn’t a civilian, wasn’t even a hero.
“Hello, Doctor,” the villain mused. “You were quite the help today.”

Update now that it's finished: I am irrevocably changed. This is a masterclass on writing in general, but especially for the superhero/sci-fi genre. I am in love with this work and devastatingly inspired to keep working on my own craft
