Something hit Lan Wangji’s cheek, knocking his head to the side and leaving behind a sharp sting. It took a moment for Lan Wangji to realize he had been slapped. “Pay attention when I’m talking to you,” one of the Wen soldiers barked. Lan Wangji glanced at his face for a short moment before demonstratively looking off into the middle-distance again.

It would almost sound like a reasonable argument if it wasn’t so completely absurd. Zizhen looked at Jin Ling to share an incredulous look, but his friend only looked thoughtful. Sizhui wasn’t any help either, since he wouldn’t even meet Zizhen’s eyes.
“This is ridiculous,” Zizhen complained. “You can’t be serious.”
The (former) Junior Quartet decide to send Zizhen to Lotus Pier to find Jiang Cheng a spouse. It doesn't quite go according to plan.

Ferried them all over Wildemount. Arranged visits with prisoners in the Dungeon of Penance. Let them dig up his yard. Descended into Aeor with them, unaccompanied. Accepted invitations to dinner. Let one of them hug him. In public. More than once.
Mind control. It had to be.
Verin gets it into his head that Essek has been kidnapped by the Mighty Nein (specifically Caleb), and sets out on a solo rescue mission to Rexxentrum.
Hijinks ensue.
