Summary
Tugging the boy closer towards himself, Bokuto observes his serene features. In his slumber, Akaashi appears more calm than usual. His lips jut out into a soft pout, and Bokuto knows from the handful of times he slept with Akaashi that the boy will be waking up with a trail of dried drool starting from the corner of his mouth. It elicits a smile from the ardent athlete, but the warmth in his chest coils with something sharp and scalding as he remembers that they will be separating again come the next afternoon.
The realization paints the blue from the moonlight in their Osaka hotel into a murky gray. Bokuto wills himself to focus on the cadence of Akaashi’s breath, on the sweet-citrus of his shampoo, on anything other than the uncertainty that makes his heart swell achingly.
Bokuto and Akaashi learn to navigate through a long-distance relationship.

Well, that’s not quite the truth. Chronologically speaking, he had met Bokuto Koutarou in a bar a few short months ago. Akaashi had been coming off a bad breakup, and maybe it was the heartbreak or maybe it was the way Bokuto’s lip caught between his teeth when he first caught sight of Akaashi. Either way, the night ended in Akaashi riding Bokuto up against the wall behind the bar.

A lot of books written by the unmated described it that way. Fireworks, explosions, sparks. Something bright and loud and just this side of violent. All that came later, sure, but it wasn’t how things started.
At first, it was just gravity.
A pull. Something deep inside, tugging hard, until there was no choice but to follow where it led.
There was no resisting the urge once it hit, no fighting the instinct. Patients in hospitals woke up from anaesthesia and tried to climb off surgery tables. Others yanked out IV’s, and catheters, and went limping down the street in hospital gowns. Prisoners threw themselves at the bars of cells until they knocked themselves unconscious, or tried to climbs fences topped with razor wire, slicing skin open in the desperation to get out. Not because they wanted to escape.
Because they had to answer the call.
