Noctis thinks there must be something strangely unique about rainy nights in hotel rooms— almost like another reality, even. Like he’s been transported to some special bubble in space, he feels almost detached. He thinks, with a deep breath, almost rattling in his chest, that if he stays here too long he’ll start to float away.
He reminds himself that everything is fine. He tries not to think about how many damn times he’s had to remind himself of this now, but he does anyway.

Asbel slowly begins to move his head, hoping to slide out of Richard’s grasp and stand, but the grip becomes tighter. It’s doesn’t hurt, but it is firm, and Richard cradles the back of his skull as if… he owns it, Asbel thinks. It forces him to keep eye contact.
“Asbel,” his name drips from the king’s lips, low and thick, “I just want to be sure. Do you still trust me?”
