I cried and laughed and cried more and laughed more. Found this hidden treasure when looking for fics with “Buck has abandonment issues” tag. Buck is such a relatable character and it’s breaking my heart.
I think the (un?)intentional wisdom and healthy communication in this fic healed something in me. ❤️
Plus Christopher being amazing of course.

Summary

Bookmarking this simply because this took me literal months to read (there was a LONG gap between) but I am still satisfied to have finished it. I don’t think I will come back to this to re-read it but the character arcs will stay with me.
Morgana’s redemption was written excellently! She got a surprising amount of “screen-time” and her devotion to Arthur (or in hindsight, towards the kingdom’s wellbeing) was surprising towards the end but made fully sense.
There were a lot of quotable lines and deep analysis, especially for Merlin and Morgana. Arthur’s emotional intelligence and forwardness felt OOC at times but his sweetness and overall final character growth helped!

The idea of Buck finding someone else, of him going anywhere further than their living room, sat like a brick in Eddie’s gut. Was he so desperate to escape? Could he see it, written all over Eddie’s face? The shift Eddie had been pointedly not looking at since he returned to LA.
“We are your family.”
“I need to learn to—”
“If you say stand on your own two feet one more time, Buck, I swear!”
Buck heaved a sigh, put upon and irritated, “Well, what’s so wrong with that?”
“We’ve fucking been alone, Buck. Me and you, all our lives, we’ve been doing it alone. You grew up alone. I did too. You don’t need to learn how to be alone, you need to learn how to lean on the people who are offering you their shoulder.”
OR -
An 8x18 epilogue/fix-it. Buck and Eddie fight, a few truths come to light and they learn how to lean on each other again.

I forgot how much I LOVE bamf!Stiles fics.. they give me life. The pack dynamic is also excellent here! The way it’s centered and accentuated constantly and shaped basically into the heart of the story is perfect!

Summary
When a noble visits Camelot with her servant-turned-lover, Merlin thinks he and Arthur may actually have a chance. But when Arthur uses the visit as inspiration to instead court Gwen, Merlin develops a tickle in his throat. Then a cough. Then flower petals.
Beltane is a time for celebrating new life and new births, but Merlin will be lucky to survive until the festival, since the only cure for Hanahaki is to have one’s love returned…and Arthur doesn’t love him.

"Everything about me is tied up in Arthur. You can't take Arthur without losing me too."
Man this was an emotional rollercoaster. Before starting the fic, I had to do a quick check to the notes and the ending of the fic to make sure it had a happy ending because hanahaki fics can be brutal. Fic featuring emotionally constipated and inadequate Arthur who with his miscommunications essentially causes Merlin's illness, unintentionally. Also competent!Merlin was a tag I didn't know I needed, he was giving such husband/king/advisor energy right from the start of the fic and every single person in Camelot knew it. In the beginning, I thought the Arthur/Gwen relationship might have been a misdirect or a plot of Arthur's to make Merlin jealous (which would have been a dick move so glad that didn't happen) and then of course the obvious, that Arthur was asking Gwen's help to arrange something special for Merlin for the Beltane celebrations.
