These rules made Peter's life easier after witnessing the death of his mother. He never imagined himself breaking them until he met a certain raccoon on Contraxia and soon found himself becoming obsessed.

Spoilers For Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol.3
Peter thought nothing of it. Just narrowed it down to being a little unfit. He hadn't exercised as much after returning to Earth and shouldn't have pushed himself so hard during his afternoon run. His world is then turned upside down when he's diagnosed with stage 2 lung cancer. When Rocket find out, it falls on his shoulders to ensure the Legendary Star Lord fights it off. Even if it means coming up with a less conventional cure.

She danced all the time. Saved the galaxy with it, too, so Rocket supposed it was kind of her thing. He would have paid very good money to avoid admitting that he liked to watch her. Piper Jane Quill was very good at a few things, like running her smart fucking mouth into and out of trouble, stealing whatever she could get her hot little hands on, and moving to music like she was made out of it or something.

Not tail-yanking age, but definitely younger than his teens. Somewhere from eight to about twelve, maybe. There was no mistaking that this was Peter -- the copper-colored hair and bright green eyes were the same, his features still recognizably Peter Quill.

Summary
After the events of vol3 Rocket and Quill stay in touch during the Terran's stay on Earth. After some time and a horrible event, Peter finds out he doesn't really fit in with normal people on Earth. Drunk, full of sorrow, and lonely he gets into an argument with Rocket which ends up on the raccoon cutting off all contact with Peter for an entire year.
Desperate for belonging, Peter moves to New Asgard to try and heal his wounded heart, only to end up worse and after a drunk accident, he finds himself in a strange place with versions of people that thought he was dead or never knew who he was.
There is also a scarred, moody, grumpy, and mean Rocket that calls himself Starlord for some reason.
