Hizashi felt the shift—the moment when Shouta finally stopped fighting the exhaustion and let it take him. His breaths grew slow, steady, his face softening against Hizashi's chest.
Still, Hizashi kept humming, quieter now, the sound little more than a whisper in the dark. He stayed that way long after Shouta had fallen asleep—his hand still moving in gentle circles, his lips pressed against his hair, humming as though the song itself might keep the pain away a little longer.

After the war, Shouta started counting. He counted his own steps, his breaths, the fucking pens on the desks in the teacher’s lounge. But most importantly, he counted his students every single day. He counted them in class, on the training grounds, at lunch, even on the weekends in the dorm common room. He counted them because he was terrified he’d lose another one. Aoyama was in jail with his parents after his betrayal. While every single one of them was injured in the war, they were all still alive. They were all so wonderfully alive, and Shouta knew - without a single shred of doubt - that he no longer had control over the safety of his students’ lives.
And it terrified him.

OR: Shouta spends a night battling his own demons, and though he might be strong enough to resist, the reality that he might not be in control of everything is a hard truth he needs to face.

Summary
One second he was gripping the fire escape, and the next he was crashing to the pavement below. The drop wasn't life-threatening, but the impact sent jolts of pain through his spine.
A painful groan escaped Shouta's lips, his body longing to curl into itself for protection but frozen by fear of making any potential injuries worse. His mind swam through a fog, limbs heavy and unresponsive as if weighed down by invisible chains.
His coworkers were going to have a field day with this once they found out. That was, if they found him at all. The thought churned a sick twist of panic in his gut as his vision blurred further, the stars above him smearing into meaningless streaks of light. In his feverish state, Shouta couldn't remember if he'd told anyone where he was going tonight.
Or, Aizawa Shouta is a stubborn idiot whose logic goes out of the window when he's knee-deep in a fever.
