loosley based on BTVS. Vampires do have souls but are split between vampire/human side and Shiro represses his Vampire side so much that if he's not careful he could lose control and give into his sudden urges.
And Lance the cute older Librarian who watches over Downbrookes Ley lines along with Allura the Vampire Slayer, happens to be in the crossfire as Shiro is cursed by the witch hagger making him give into his baser Sire instincts.

“Do you have a deathwish?” The phoenix answers him with a question this time, apparently intent on dodging the question about its name. Maybe it’s for the best, Lance’s mama always warned him that he tended to get attached to things once he’d named them. He closes his eyes, takes a deep breath.
He isn’t going to get attached this time.
Making sure that he’s still holding the phoenix’s attention, he reaches down and pushes his cloak aside, then lifts his shirt. There, bright red and ugly against his hip, are three long slashes. They aren’t scars, they aren’t healed in the slightest, they’re still red and open wounds. They don’t hurt, not in the physical sense, but Lance can’t help the repulsion he feels whenever he looks at them.

Lance stopped in his tracks, lifting his head to stare fearfully toward their destination. The castle loomed ahead of them, ominous in its state of disrepair. The brickwork and ornate doors that had once held the royal family now stood crumbled and damaged. The beast that occupied the building now had no time for upkeep, it would seem.
“Keep it moving, Lance.” A gruff voice ordered from his side. The gentle pressure of the guard's sword settled between Lance’s shoulder blades a moment later, when Lance stayed frozen in spot despite the warning.
One more step and he'd be on the bridge. Short and stone, leading straight to the castle door. The final march, less than ten steps before death would inevitably snatch him up in its talons.

They're all fighting so hard, quickly bonding with one another, fighting and gaining the strength to save the galaxy from the same fate the Alteans experienced. They're all becoming a family, though rough and bumpy in the beginning, they're blending together as the war acts like sandpaper, smoothing the edges. All the edges except for tiny rough patch called 'Lance'.
Or the one where everyone in the castleship are bonding and becoming a team and family, except Lance just can't seem to get over his insecurities to join them. While he may not think so, they want him included just as badly as he wants to be included.
