His smile is bright and his cheeks are rosy, proof of life and warmth and joy. The surrounding snowfall almost glitters as it reflects the light, illuminating Steve all the better.
I’m in love with you, Eddie thinks, and he finds that it feels right to think so. Maybe soon, he’ll have the courage to say it.

Steve’s eyes widened for a moment, and then a firm hand was clapping down onto his shoulder with enough force to shake him slightly. Eddie’s palm was wide enough to nearly encompass the width of it, and his fingers dug into the meat of Steve’s trap muscle. There was the slightest bite of cool metal from where his rings landed on Steve’s shoulder, but above all there was a warmth that radiated off of the man. The heat of blood rushing through his veins; something real, and whole just under the surface.

Steve is not thinking entirely when he tells them about it. Bag packed in the car and a tank full of gas and all.
In hindsight, he also hadn’t been thinking while he was shoving clothes in the said bag, forcing in everything he could fit until it was full and zipping it shut was more a chore than a simple action. In the space of time between his father’s phone call and the subsequent breakdown he had while driving to the gas station to pump his car, the only thing he had thought about in the entirety of it was that he needed Eddie and Robin with him.
