Summary
However, he was a bird with clipped wings. In this cruel game, freedom was one thing the Watchers could not allow. Suddenly, he felt the tingle of his wings snap away from his control like a severed cord. Then, his body began to feel heavy, the effects of gravity ruthlessly tugging him back down. Down to his death.
I was inspired by session 7 of Wild Life when Grian tried to fly, but falls instead. Enjoy!!

The man hovering over him leaned back, releasing Grian completely. Cold night air rushed in to fill the void.
“I guess it’s out in the open now,” the stranger hummed. “Shame. I wanted to avoid this.”
With the additional glow occupying the space between them, Grian was finally able to catch features that were lost in the prior darkness. His curiosity outweighed all else, and he drank them in greedily. As soon as he saw who sat across from him, alarms blared in his mind.
This man wasn’t a civilian, wasn’t even a hero.
“Hello, Doctor,” the villain mused. “You were quite the help today.”

Grian is a vet. After a chance encounter in the dead of night, during which he accidentally saves a villain from the brink of death, he suddenly finds himself entangled in a world beyond anything he could've ever imagined.

Summary
At the end of 3rd life, Grian and Scar go home. They do not kill each other. There is no ring of cactus, no fists, no blood, no apologies.
It takes a few months of Grian slowly getting sicker, of the world cracking apart like cheap paint, for Scar to realize this was a mistake. It’s okay, because he knows how to fix it. How to save them, for good this time.
