Kaz was on the ground in a blink, vision tunneling as his non-metallic shoulder let out a recognizable pop as it was twisted out of his socket and yanked into a held place above his head, Miséricorde clattering to the ground. His flask laid impaled beside him, Crimson Tears leaking onto the ground in a sure reminder of what was to become of him soon, each ragged breath more difficult than the last. Messmer's knee only pressed harder against his back, and the only signs of him leaning closer came with the clinks of his armor, and the cascade of red hair falling in closely-resembled curtain around him.
“Vile tarnished,” Messmer uttered, and, unbelievably, all Kaz could think of through the pain was how warm Messmer's hand was gripping his, how it radiated from atop him, seeming to envelope his body. Outer Gods, save him.

Summary
One of the first rules taught to Gusion of love magic was to never upset the afflicted in their love. Love magic was dangerous. If the inexperienced mage cast a love spell or brewed a potion of love, there was a chance for the victim to die if their heart gets broken.
It's why the doctor hadn't told Alucard what spell had hit him. It's why Gusion hadn't told him, and it's why Gusion couldn't just pack up and run away from this mess.
