There’s a minute or two where he thinks he might be able to stop, to get on top of his breathing, but when Aaron’s hand lands between his shoulder blades, somewhere between a pat and the beginnings of a rub, and he jumps so violently that he chokes on the saliva that’s gathered in his mouth, he knows tonight is considerably worse than others.
“Spencer,” Aaron says quietly, in that tone of voice that he only ever uses when he’s seriously concerned.
He knows if Aaron could hear his internal thoughts, he’d be lovingly shot down in flames, rebuked with a soft but firm: as if you ever need to worry about that.
