He checked his phone again. Ilya’s game ended over an hour ago- even on the busiest of nights he would respond by now. Something short, enough to let him know that he was safe and whole. Hayden flicked on the television and before the retort could even leave his mouth- he saw the headline. Ilya Rozanov hospitalized and believed to be in critical condition. Critical condition.
Shane Hollander came apart at that- he had to get there. He had to get to him. There's only the slight problem that no one knows about them.

He is about 20 minutes out of Montreal when his phone buzzes for the first time. Then again. Then again. He pulls in at the next rest stop.

He calls Ilya straightaway. It rings out.

Shane and Ilya's weekend plans are derailed when Ilya gets sick and a lot of different things unfold from there that test not only their relationship but that with those around them, the hockey world and the general public.
Set in a similar timeline to Role Model/TLG bringing in a whole bunch of different characters and storylines.
A serious illness fic with some graphic medical details including vomit and intense stuff re mental health - CWs with each chapter. Will be HEA but angsty along the way, a whole lot of hurt/comfort and a good amount of silliness/crackfic elements 💖

Shane nodded silently, getting the gist that Ilya’s phone was dead and couldn’t contact any of his teammates. Ok. So really there were only two things he could do here, Shane concluded. Both probably equally as stupid in their own ways.
Either A) he could walk away, act like the rivals he and Rozanov were supposed to be. Not make whatever was going on with him his problem and move on. Or B) he takes Ilya back to him and Hayden’s hotel room and looks after him for the night until he’s sober enough to go back to his own hotel and teammates.
Shane liked the second option more.
OR
Shane finds a drunk Ilya at the bar and takes him back to his hotel room to make sure he's okay. Also Hayden is there.
