Summary
It's not an illness, except in all the ways it is. The fogginess, the inability to do things that came naturally before. But there's a strength to it, too.

I began this ritual when I was young. The first time a lover died in my arms, I asked for their form without thinking. I wanted to be able to see their face after they were gone.

Summary
There is a word in Old Realm most frequently translated as "partnership". This is a fair translation in common use.
If you were to trace the etymology, you would find that once upon a time it meant, "like Gaia and Luna".

Or: Putting the O in A/B/O
I cocked an eyebrow and slid into the chair opposite. “Then you must be looking for someone to help you through.”
He startled when I sat. “Help me?” he asked.
That deserved both eyebrows. “…with your heat.”
“I can’t be in heat,” the pretty boy—probably a Dynast, given what he was wearing—said. “I’m a beta.” As if in answer to my Dynast theory, he snapped open his fan.

He’d hesitate. But he would, after that moment, strip his armor, strip his shirt, and turn. And she would stand and strip the bandages off, exposing wounds. (It’s not realistic for him to still be bleeding so freely; if he were it would be truly dangerous and she would stop. But she can’t do any of this in reality, so let him be bleeding as much as he was by the end of the caning. More, even.)

“How did you just make me hunting you down sound like a flirt.” Flint’s voice was flat, had been the whole night. That might be its Tell, though I usually pretend not to notice.
“How did I make a hunt sound like a flirt? Are you a Lunar or not?”

Summary
Fifth piercing done, fifth piercing in. Your back is bleeding slightly from each, staunched only by the piercings themselves. Other than that, you don’t feel different. The chains, thick as they are, make up an artifact. It sits in your skin as light as air, noticeable only as your artist adjusts it, ensuring all pieces are seated appropriately.
But you know now you can’t come. Even if you tried. Not for the next five years. It sends a shiver through you, chains echoing the motion with little shivering noises of their own. Tomorrow will start Calibration, and you can participate, but you won’t find any release.

Summary
Every being in Creation knows what it is to fall under a Solar’s thrall, or aegis, or fury. On some beautiful occasions, all at once. And it’s a small enough thing—nearly mortal, nearly god, certainly not Primordial nor Yozi nor Neverborn—that you can understand, if I’m patient.
For a good joke, I can be as patient as I need to be.

You haven’t ever been given a gift quite this fine. You wouldn’t go so far as to say it is the best moment of your life—not when your life has contained a moment where the Serpent of the Golden Tongue had thought on you and said, “Mine,” but that was so much more than a gift. That changed the whole of you.

“I promise I won’t touch myself until you give me permission or one of us leaves the manse.”
“Unless.”
Spring’s tongue went a little thick in their mouth and they tried to duck their head. Uriel held them in place. “…Unless.”

Summary
The night was cool and clear, Luna half-full and every star crisp. Lintha had excellent night vision, as a species, and out in the water there was no other light to muddle the sight of them. They rocked gently with the motions of the ship. The only discomfort would have been the chill in the air, but that gave me an excuse to curl inside the line of Verithine’s arm.
“When I was younger, Mom always quizzed me on constellations,” I murmured, eyelids heavy. “She started me on the Wood and Earth stars, then the constellations.” A smile tucked itself in the corner of my mouth. “Took her ages to realize I’d just memorized her order. Gem, Blossom, Crossed Feathers, Shipwreck…”

Summary
“Uriel, if you tease me right now, I will lose it.”
Uriel smiled, slow and easy. “Well, Luna is the goddess of madness…”
Spring rolled their eyes up and forced out, voice cracking, “Can I have her chosen in a merciful aspect?”
