Off - on - off - on - before buzzing and dying with a final sad pop. “Shit.” Steve cursed, standing upright, trash bag forgotten at his side as he squinted through the darkened glass doors like he could switch the bulbs back on with pure willpower alone. Another thing to fix before his folks came back.
Later, he’d blame the slight buzz of alcohol running warm through his system for why it took him so long to notice the figure reflected behind him in the glass.

Summary
Eddie squints into the bright sunlight flooding the kitchen. He’s eating a bowl of lucky charms that taste like chemicals and fake sugar and he’s not even sure he’s going to make it to the end of the first mouthful. The texture is grainy and artificially chewy and Eddie is sure he used to like these.
Steve, the guy in Eddie’s house, sits himself opposite with neat little piles of scrambled eggs and cut fruit on his plate. He looks at Eddie, gets up again, pulls the blind just far enough that Eddie’s eyes are shaded, and then comes back to his breakfast.
“Can I get you anything?”
“You can get the fuck out of my house,” Eddie replies. But there’s no bite. No meaning. No energy. No anything behind the words. He’s so fucking tired and so done with it all.
Steve carries on like Eddie hasn’t spoken, and eats his breakfast.

The thing about spending so much time around Wade was that ninety percent of the time you could ignore one hundred percent of what he was saying, and you wouldn’t miss a thing.
But every now and then, something sticks. It would worm its way into Logan’s brain and make a home for itself, awakening things he didn’t even realize lay dormant and causing mini existential crises on a near weekly basis.
It was never obvious in the moment. Just a word or phrase that would stick out and then bam! Cue the incessant rumination and restructuring of his brain chemistry.
The latest one being the word housespouse.
It was a stupid word.
It wasn’t even technically a real word.
But it was stuck. Ratting around and ringing in his ears every time he caught himself doing anything remotely domestic (which happened to be a lot more than he’d realized).

Adrenaline, fear, elation, anger, pain… all of it had coalesced into a miasma of emotions that swirled around in his chest in the aftermath of destroying the time-ripper and had latched on to the only other solid thing around. That thing just happened to be Wade Wilson.
He’d been in enough fucked up situations to know that near death experiences tended to mess with the brain for a bit. They made people do reckless shit like confess their secrets, fuck people they shouldn’t, even declare their sudden and undying love.
It was chemical and it was psychological. It wasn’t real.
The feeling would pass.
He just needed some time.
